BadFirss in thi Woods.?A gentleman who arrived ir. th? city last night after having driven through .the country from Hendersonville reported terrible destruoiion from forest fires between Inman and Cam> pobello stations on the Spartanburg & AsheTitle Railroad. The people, whose houses were in imminent danger and some of these who had been burned otit, had removed their household goods and stook to the Bfc . plowed fields around to escape the destructive flames. The tewn of lnman was thought to have been burned and the wind was blowing a teriffio gale oarrying the flames with it. Fines in thr County.?It was reported in the city yesterday that large forest fires were raging in the vicinity of Traveller's Rest, on the line of the C. K. & W. road. The fires had already covered considerable ground and one house was renorted hnr..?<t Another fire was also reported near the Reedy River Church, on the White Horse road. With such winds as prevailed yesterday it is very prebable that much damage was done.?Greenville Newt. Norfolk Swkpt bt Fibs and Cyclone.? Norfolk, Vs., April 7.?A storm of thunder, lightning and hail, which brvko over the city yesterday morning, changed at 10 o'clock last night into a cyolone, the wind blowing fifty-four miles an hour until 6 o'olook this morning. The wind came from the northeast and blew into the harbor and its tributaries. The tide, whieh was at high water this morniog at 1.86 o'clock, was eighteen inohes higher than ever reoorded before. j?- The lower part of the oity was flooded, and fire broke out on Water Street, caused from slacking lime on the wharf of Johft O. Gamago A Son. The old Cotton Exchange building, containing about 800 bales ef cotton, and the warehouse of J; W. Perry ft Co., containing a^out 600 bales of cotton. were totally destroyed. Thr loss on buildings end stock destroyed in this blook is estimated et $150,000, pertly insured. It is probable that the losses busttained by wholesale grocery merchants from water foroed into their warehouses by the unprecedented tide will nearly equal this mount. Fatal Railroad Wreck.?Baltimore, April 2.?A special from West Point, Va., says a fatal wreck occurred on the York River branoh of the Richmond and Danville Railroad, about 2 miles above, about 9 'clock Saturday night. The heavy rains of Saturday washed out a culvert and a part of the dam between the tank pond and the river, and an engine and seven freight oars # plunged into the washout.
