The fire was incendiary, being caused by a band of desperadoes, their purpose being to rob the mail*. The postmaster reports the band still at large, and says they now threaten his life, and further that 4^ the authorities are unable to artist the thieves. He advises the department to discontinue mail service at that point until a sufficient fl)rce can be had to arrest the entire gang. The department has the matter under consideration.
