It will be aeon, by reference to anoth? er column, that Mr WM. G. KENNEDY proposes to read his puem, "Ichabod," before an audienco of our citizens, on the 24th of March, appropriating a libs erul portion of the pecuniary proceeds of the same to tue Ladies' Monument? al Association of Sumter. The subject, "a tribute to the Lost Cause and its Defenders," is one peculiarly appropri? ate in its association with thc objecta of the Monumental Association, and this alone should induco a largo audience. But we make no hesitation in saying that this poem, has decided merit, (and of this our readers are the better pro- ) pared to judge from the pieces, by Mr. KENNEDY, whioh have appeared io our columns) and upon this ground it lias | claims upon our intelligent communi? ty ' We hope, therefore, that the propos? ed reading will bo greeted with a flow? ing house.
