C. The purpose of the conference, which ls one of a series of twolvo , regional conferences on education, called by thc Commissioner of Fda cation, is to discuss the most im portant Slid pressing needs of educa tion ill thc Stales of Hie conference; group from the standpoint of the citizens who own, support and use the schools rather than from that of professional educators. Governors and chief school officer:; of tho group of conference States, members of Legislatures, mayors of cities, members of city councils, women's clubs, civic and patriotic organizations. labor unions, and ministers, lawyers, editors and other publicists, business men, city and county superintendents of schools, members of city and county boards of education, representatives of uni versities, colleges and normal schools as well as men and women interested as citizens in tho improvement of schools and the promotion of educa tion, have been invited to attend the sessions of tho conference. Set speeches and formal proceed ings of any kind will bo avoided tis far as possible. Although a definite understanding will be reached tn advance that certain persons will be prepared to speak, it is not Intended lo confine the proceedings to those persons. The meetings will bo con ferences, in realtly, and frank and free expression will be in order. Among the conference topics an nounced for such round-table discus sion are: 1.
