The procession through the streets was neither 1and nor gorgeous, but was neat and :ttrac tive. The streets were lined with peo ple all day; not half of those who came to town went into the circus. The per fo:inaiee was good; there was nothing new except the bicycle riding and the firing of a man out of. a cannon. The latt-r feat is accomplished by means of a strnz spring, and is neither dificult nor dangerous. There. was seartesy any applause during the whole perform ance. and this fact seemed to cast - sort of damper over the performers. For sale by Dr. W. E. Pelham. e.o.w. Confederate Bonds. There was a pretty brisk sale of Con federate bonds in Newberry last week, the price ranging at about $3 per thous and. A large quantity was bought at this price. The following article from the ..Yews and Courier of Saturday shows that there was a quite a "boom" in Charleston Friday: There wag. a steady rise in the :price of Confederate~ bands on Wroad street yesterday. Early in the morning they weDt up to $6.50 and then to $7.25, and before 2 o'clock P. M. an enterprising holder had placed $200,000 in New Tork at $10. It is said that one of the city banks has $7,000,000 in bonds which are being held and wfiich will not be sold. The Bunday NeTws says: The market for Corifederate. bonds yesterday was feverish and exeited. Sales were made at widely different rates, one lot of $5, 000 selling as low as S4 a thousand and another lot of $12,000 selling at $13 a thousand. A sale of $500,000 was made on account of one of the badiks at $1Q and $i2. The total sales in Charleston vesterda3y were about $600,000. A rip. ple of excitement was caused by an ad vertisement for Confederate notes, but the boom in these was not very exten sive, it.being understood that they were wanted for the purpose of circulating theni with an advertisement on the back. A small ag2ount of notes were sold at 25 cents per $1,000. Some bullish holders of Confederate bonds were talking yesterday of getting $25 and $30 a thousand for their pre cious ruhbish; but telegrams from New York received in the afte.rnoon reported a break in the market, the bondls being freely offered tbere at $7.50. Whether th,e .bgttpm has fallen out of the boom or not, it has certaiply been a godsend to the South and the surplus ciash of the knowing Amsterdam investors will cir eulate in Dixie all the more freely be ase the lucky recipients never ex peted a cent from such a source.
