Change of Schedule. The new schedule of the G. & C. R. R. went into effect Monday the 11th. The up passenger and mail train ar rives at Newberry at 11.20 A. M., and leaves at 11.23. The down passenger and mail arrives at 3.07 P. M. and leaves at 3.10. The trains meet at Ninety-Six. We Qor.'t like this change because it delays our C5harleston ugail qne dlay, Another Lot of Fine Buggies. Mr. L. Bailey, represen'ting the popu lar house of Mr. Louis Cook, we are pleased to say, is now in town with a fine as .>rtment of single and double Rggjes and Carriages, which will be sold on the most favqrable terms. .The citizens of Newberry are acquainted with the character and quality of the Louis Cook's vehicles, a number of which have been in use here for some time, and it is therefore quite unnec.es sary for us to more than call attention to the fact that an opportunity is now afforded them to purchase at very low igures. They can be seen at Jones' Warehouse, near the pepot. Call on Mr. Bailey. Smokey Town. Thi joeality is all serene-with few exceptions voted the straight ticket as all good citizens should do. About sixty cases of diptheria have ocurred here during the year Dr. Langford, wiho treated the entire num ber, fotnd himself very successful, only osing three. Drought did us some injury but for the most part our farmers have come ut right side up with care. -No marriages to report this fall, but we have no doubt some of the young people are fixing things up and will soon a~e a leap into the sea of matrimony. One thing is certain no Smoky Town te will perish of starvation for we have raised taters till you can't rest-and big ones too. If the editors of the HERALD will pay us that long promised visit we will feed them on 'possums and taters, The New Way. There is an old adage which says that the course of true love never runs smooth. We opine that this was true in the long time ago when ye ardent lver had nothing but his devoted love, his soul-lit glances and his sighs to offer, but not now. Times have changed. The ingenuity of man has come to the rscue and it is just as easy as falling of a log to take a maiden captive. This is more of a practical age, and half the soft nothings, tender glanc.es, and Vesuvian sighs if accompanied with a pretty, appropriate present will do the business effectually. Something of the same sort, altbough it need not be so expensive, administered to the epeted mother-in-law will bring her to terms too. If a man wants to make a wife happy or a wife a husband, a handsome keepsake, something orna mental or useful is the very thing.
