Do Not Get the Blus.. Trip lightly over trouble, Trip lightly over wrong, We only make grief double By dwelling on it long. Why clasp woe's hand so tightly? Why sigh o'er blossoms dead? Why cling to forms unsightly? Why not seek joy instead? Trip lightly over sorrow, Though all the day be dark, The sun may shine to-morrow, And gaiiy sing the lark; Fair hopes have not departed, Though roses may have led; Then never be down-hearted, But look for joy instead. Trip lightly over sadness, Stand not to rail at doom; We've pearls to string of gladness, On this side of the tomb; Whilst stars are nightly shinin;, And the Hes(ven is overhead, Encourage not repining. But look for jov ircteod. Lu V E. The sea bath its pearls, The heavens have their stars, But my heart, my heart, My heart bath its love. Great are the sea and the heavens, But greater is my heart, And brighter than pearls or stars Sparkles an glows my love. Thou youthful ittle maiden, Come to my mighty heart; Mv beart and the sea and the heavens Are melting away with love. Presidential Prospects and the Campaign in the South. Alabama; -Chances rezarded favorable for Greeley and Brown. The Conservatives carried the State elections in 1870 by ma jorities rangir.g from 1,700 to 4,500. The white vote e- -eds the black by about 8,000. T t. radicals have put on their ticket some native wbite men of good character. Arkansas.-Is regarded certain for Greeley and Brown. This State up to this time has been "ruled by the most desperate and villainous carpet bag ring to be found anywhere in the South. A Liberal majority of at least 15,000 is counted upon. It is said that a good mny of the ngro votes are for Greeley. Delaware and Florida.-Delaware is certain for Greeley. In Florida the white vote exceeds the black by about 1,000. Florida is re garded doubtful. The chances about equal, or slightly in Gree ley's favor. Georgia.-Certain for Greeley. 30,000 majority anticipated. Kentucky-Certain for Greeley by about 50.000 majority. Louisiana-Regarded doubtful. The negro vote exceeds the white by about 6.000. Maryland-Deemed certain for Greeley by about 30,000 majority. 31ississippi-Doubtful. The ne gro majority is from 10,000 to 15, 000. Missouri-Regarded certain for Greeley by about 40,000 majority. North Carolina-Chances arc good for Greeley. South Carolina-Regarded good for Grant. as both of the Radical parties support Grant, and the negro vote exceeds the white by about 25,000. Tennessee -Deemed sure for Greeley by about 50,000 majority. Te.ras and the tico Tirginias Certain for Greeley. In Texas the whites out-number the blacks by n early t wo to one. In Virginia. it is expected that Greeley's ma jority will be about 30.000. As to West Virginia, the late election shews that it may be counted as certain for the Liberal ticket. To recapitulate, the States which are certain for Greeley are: Stw.Eetlvt.jStates. Elect'l vote. Arkansas...... 6 e:ese1 Delaware. .... T3 a..... Georgi........ 11 igii....i Kentucky....... 12 igna Maryland....... Missuri.....15Totnesse.......1u2 N. Caroiina.....10 The States which are doubtful, but which will probably go for1 Greelev are: Aibhama......10 jLouisana.......8 Florida..........4 Totail.............22, The only South State which is counted as certain for Grant is South Carolina-7. The one doubtful State which is pr'obable is Mississippi--S. Such is the view of the situation in the Southern States, as given by a correspondent of the New York Tribune, who claims that he has visited eac:h State referred to; andi that his conclusions are based upon a fair, accurate and imp)artial examination in each case. The reviewer thus concludes : "If Gireelev- carries-none of the doubtful Southern States, he can be elected by the vote of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey anid Indiana. with those States in the South of which he is sure. If he carries Alabania and Louisiana. as I am confident he will, the vote of New York and Pennsylvania alone will come within one electo ra vote of the 184 reouired for a choice. Or. he could lose Penn svlvania arid still succeed with I~ndiana and New Jre,and either Connecticut, Wisconsin, or any two of the three Pacific States. The Liberais at the North may be assured that the prospects at the South are fully as e ncouraginig as I have represented above, if Hartrauft is defeated in Penn svlvania in October, there will be no further doubt about the result in the States I have classed as dout>tful, and in all the South Grant will be able to expect no support save in South Carolina-" When d oes a young lady ~ wish to win more than seven bjaux at once ?
