Ssr.mevios P.f NEWSPAPERs.--Mo5t peopio think the selection of suitable matter for a newspaper the easiest part of the business. How great an error. To look over fifty exchange papers daily, from which the question is not what shall, but shall not be selected, is no * very easy task. If every person who * reads the newspapers could have edited it, we should have less complaints. Not unfrequently it is the case that an et itor looks over his exchange papers in search of.something interesting, and finds abso lately nothing. Every paper is dryer * . than a contribution bt,x, and yet some thing must be had--his paper must be out and something must be in it, and he does the best he can. To an editor who * has the least care in what he selects, the writineg he has to do is the easiest part of * ~ s labor. Every subscriber thinks the *aper is printed for his own benefit, and * there isnothing that suits him in it, it ~aust be good for nothing. As many sub acribers as an editor has, so many tastes has to consult. One wants something very smart and sound. One likes an ardotes, fun and fcolic, and his next door reighbor wonders that a man of sense - i put such stuff in his p:n,er. Some - .ing spicy comes out, and the editor is ablackguard. Next comes something ergumentative, and the editor is a dull - '>OL. And so between them all, the poor ~.'alow gets the worst of it. They never *maect that what does not please them, wil please the next man; but they insist nat if the paper does not please them, .' is good for nothing. AN BPIoxE 0?
