EDITOR-I sometimes think of ad vertising in your paper, but then agait when I take the paper up to get some idea bow an advertisement ought to be writter I am dumb founded at sight of the big no tie.es contained therein, and am almost in clined to do as I once heard of a poor mat doing, namely, picking out one of the most conspicuous advertisements and persuadinp you to let me put just beneath it "MI TOO," and. signing my name. Then agair I've heard it said, advertising is the sure road to fortune, and as I am in need of e small one at least, I thought I'd try all means of getting it. Just received 150 lbs. of Candy, Lest make and all flavors, which I will sell al prices, according to quantity, ranging frorr 30 to 50 ets per pound. Ginger snaps, gin ger nuts, sugar cakes and soda crackers Jellies of all kinds put up in beautiful gob lets, fresh fruits pqt up in cans, also oysters and tomatoes put up in the same way, best brands of -erars, genuine Durham mustard, superior Italian maccaroni, drums of figs fresh lemons, saln:on in cans, pipes rangmn in price from 5 to 75 ets. The above goods have just been received. I also have cu cumber pickles, which I get by the barrel and sell at $1 per gallon, a gallon holding upwards of fifty pickles. Also a few arti vies in the dry goods line, they are choice goods, and in consequence of being bought at auction can be sold extremely iow. Gro ceries of all. descriptions, also tin-ware. Also received a choice lot of Floride Oranges. Also to be received this weei large, fine Northern Apples. I will say to my friends and the public it general,-if you don't see in this notice what you want, just pick out the most attractive advertisement in the Newberry Herald, and inagine.you see at the foot of it, "Me too only on a smaller scale." nov 18 L. R. MARSHALL. WATER! WATER! WATER Joseph Stowe, from Concord, North Caro lina, intends to be in Newberry with his celebrated Well boring implement in aboul eight or ten days. I can bore a better well with my augur than any other in the South era States. My wells are twelve inches in diameter, and all other wells that I know of are only eight inches in diameter. The bored wells need no recommendation, they are an established fact, having been in use in this part of North Carolina, and in some parts of South Carolina, for twelve or fifteen years,_ and are still .gaining favor wherever they are introduced. I % ill give a few of the advantages they have over the common dug well. First and most important, they will sup ply a more pure and better water than the common well, as they cut off all the surface water ; the water of a bored well has to en ter at the bottom of the well and if there is pore water you will get it, as no surface water can enter the well. The next adyan tage they have is in being less expensive than the common well, in some. localities they are four or five times cheaper than the common well; they are also superior to the common well as they require no cleaning out, as no Frog, Toad, Snake, or any other reptile Cain get into them ; you can keel th(m as tight as a barrel, and keep out all te tras.h and filth which is liable to be blown in by the winds and other causes, in the fall ar d winter season. There are seve ral other advantages they possess over the ommon well, 'but I will only mention one4 other, they are almost equal to the best ping a< the wrater that is dran n out is al ways fresh fromn the bottom of thze well. As I can~not remain long in Newberry, manv.. persona requiring a well will mauch ablige by leavingr their names at the New berry Herald office, nad the.y will huave theml bored int the order they have thaeir Kames. -JOS.II STO WE.
