If one doesn't infer from this that reference is made to the Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth, the publicity man will regard the case as hopeless. Of course, all this isn't news to this community, for every blessed one of us has kept tabs on the flaming boards and already the leading topic of conversation in the average home is the coming of the circus and its street parade. The time-honored custom has always been to refer to each successive year's circus as "bigger and better than ever." But the phrase has become so hackneyed tnat tms year* r?amum & Bailey Circus hesitates to use it, despite the fact that it adequately describes this season's entertainment. More cars are required to transfer the Bhow, more tentage is used, more area required to accommodate the show than ever before. In fact, the eirctxs has reached a point where it is the despair cf many of the smaller railroads and taxes their facilities to the limit, for 85 cars are needed to transport the gigantic oanras vagrant from \own to town. In place or the stereotyped "grand entree," with which circuses have been content to open their program for many years, the Barnum & Bailey entertainment is inaugurated by the splendid spectacle entitled, "Cleopatra," a wordless play based upen the story of Egypt's ancient queen. The story Is effectively pantomimed and there is a cast of 1,200 persons, including a ballet of dancing girls trained by Ottakar Bartik, of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. The costumes and properties are historically correct and the entire innovation is the most stupendous thing ever attempted under canvas. Eugenie Silbon portrays the "Sorceress of the Nile," while Camille Fortune, a pantomimist of merit, enacti the role of Antony. Johannes Josefsson'i company of Icelandic gladiators are oonspicuous newcomers to the Barnum & Bailey tents. A baseball game between elephant players is another surprise. A troupe of Jin jitsu expert* perform amazing feats. The menagerie has been enlarged and the exhibit of human freaks, eliml nated a few years ago, has been restored, to the joy of erery true clreue lorer. A street parade will inaugurate tke tela day.
