George motored over to Columbia in their fine car yesterday. Our profcographer, Mr. Wm. Steele, made a flying business trip over to Columbia last Thursday. Col. J. H. Frick, a prominent attorney of Chapin, S. C., was in town last Thursday on legal business. Mr. W. H. Hiller, of Columbia, come over in his automobile and spent a few hours in town Tuesday. Next Mondav is St Patrick's Day in the morning and the wearing of the green that day will be much in evi ucuuc. Dr. E. P. Taylor and Miss Bessie Taylor, of Batesburg, visited their mother in Saluda, on Saturday of last week. Col. J. Brooks Wingard has returned from Washington enthused with the inaugural ceremonies of President Wilson. Col. E. L. Asbill, of Leesville, one of the brainest members of the Lexington Bar, was here Tuesday on legal business. Mr. J. M. Maipass, an active Member of the House of Representative and a citizen of Batesburg, was here Tuesday on business. The family of Rev. T. S. Brown left here yesterday for their new home in Burlington N. C. Everyone regretted to see them leave. Mr. N. P. Shipp is doing clerical work in the Clerk of Court's office during the absence of Clerk F. W. Shealy in Florida. Mr. W. B LaFar representing Gowan Medical Co., of Durham, N. C., who manufactures what is said to be the only sure cure for pneumona, was in town yesterday. Messrs. F. T. Bibb, Harry Roberts and S. T. Bickley spent Sunday in Columbia where they went to see Lucius Bickley $ Knowlton's Hospital, who is improving slowly. Congressman and Mrs. A. F. Lever have returned from Washington. Mr. Lever is booked for the chairmanship of House Agri cultural Committee and no better selection for this important committee could have possibly been made. HouT. N. B. Nunnamaker, ex-member of the House, was in town on business Saturday. Mr. Wannamaker is a good, substantial citizen of Sandy Run and we are always glad to meet him. Mr. James W. Shealy, of Ballentine section, who has charge of the government farm demonstration work, was in town last Friday. He made the trip from Columbia on a motorcycle. Mr Walter Shull and little son Gary, and Miss Sopha Powell, of Greenville, Mrs. Mary Gregory and Mi9s Mattie Shull, of New Brookland, spent a most pleasant day at J W Gregory's last Thursday James W. Roof, of Pelion, has been appointed Magistrate of the Fifth Magisterial District vice C. R. Ri?b. W. H. Spires has been appointed his constable. Chief Justice Gary has signed an order requiring the Southern Express Company to deliver whiskey in original packages to consignees in "dry" territories. Thi9 order of the Chief Justice will be carried to the United States Supreme Court to test the constitutionality of the Webb Act.
