Cromer, who for more than 30 years has been the faithful and beloved pastor of the Zion , Lutheran charge, was on last Thursday presented with a handsome new buggy and harness by his parishioners. Despite the inclement weather the joint Sunday school picnic, embracing the five stroDg congregations of Zion, St. PeterB, Emanuel Pilgrim and Mt. Herman, was attended by one thousand people. The gift came as a great surprise to Mr. Cromer. The presentation was made by the Hon. C. M. Eflrd in a happy little speech. The pastor w-s visibly affected by the token, which is bat an index to the high esteem in which he is held by those who know him best. There is no better man living than the Rev. J. A. Cromer, and it is the sincere wish of all that he may live many more years to cast sunshine into the hundreds of. home* in this connty, where his name is a synonym for all that is pure, just and right. Root Stock Brought $8,700. The stock of merchandise belonging: to the bankrupt estate of W. P. Roof was sold at public auction by John J. Earle, referee in bankruptcy, on last Wednesday. The Everette touring car was bought by W. E. Evans, of Columbia, for $445, ?md the Schact roadster was bought by J. J. Long for $50. The sale attracted a large crowd of visitors and the bidding was lively. White Man Arrested. George Sigktler, a white man of the Edmnnd section, was lodged in jail Monday night by Sheriff Sim J. Miller upon the charge of assault and battery with intent to kill and carrying concealed weapons. It is alleged that Sightler committed an assault upon the person of John A. Lucas on Saturday last.
