Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were en route to church, and had just left their home when the mule they were driving took fright, and in trying to check the animal Mr. Anderson pulled the wrong line and ran the mule into a bee hive, causing the bees to swarm out by thousands. Wednesday, August 26. 1908. Dislocated His Neck. Anderson, Aug. 20.?A peculiar accident happened near here on Sunday when Mr. William G. Thomas, a fireman on the Blue Ridge road, dislocated his neck while in swimming in Rocky river. Mr. Thomas weighs about 300 pounds, and he plunged in the river. His head struck on the bottom of the river and his neck became dislocated. The attending physicians do not give much hope for recovery. He is a native of Walhalla, and was" considered the best man physically in the employ of the Blue Ridge road. He is married and has several children. Mr. Thomas is 34 years of age. How's This? He and his brother were lying across a bed when lightning struck the house. He was instantly killed. His brother, who was lying by him, was unhurt. Lightning struck a tenant house of R. Smith's, on Church staeet, Monday afternoon. On the floor several cnildren were playing. The lightning tore out the window frame and the sash, breaking every light in the window. Thurmond for Prohibition. In his argument against the "special box" resolution before the county Democrotic executive committee on Saturday Hon. J. Mr. Thurmond stated that in his judgment not one twenty-fifth as much whiskey is sold now as was sold before prohibition went into effect. He stated farther that a farmer who resides some twelve miles above Edgefield recently told him of the very marked improvement in the conditions upon his farm since the legal sale of liquor was abolished. He says that as a result of long-continued experiments in the administration of mercury he is convinced that it is a sure specific for the disease, and that the only question remaining to be determined is how much time ij required to effect a cure.
