Howell of Havana, Cuba, Recommends Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. "As long ago as I can remember ,m3* mother was a faithful user and friend of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, but never in my life have I realized its true ralue until now," writes Prof. H. A. Howell, of Howell's American School, Havana, Cuba. "On the night of February 3rd our baby was taken sick with a very severe cold, the next day was worse and the following night his condition was desperate. He could not lie down and it was necessary to have him in the arms every moment. Even then his breathing was difficult. I did not think he would live until morning. At last I thought of my mother's remedy, Chamberlain's Cough Remedy, which we gave, and it afforded prompt relief, and now, three days later, he has fully recovered. A special from Orangeburg to the Charleston News and Courier says: "The latest political talk about Orangeburg is in reference to Congressman Lever's candidacy for the long term iD the United States Senate. It is known that Mr. Lever has been urged by many friends in his district to make'the race, and that he has had the matter under advisement for some time, even before the death of Senator Latimer. Representative Lever's friends are in earnest in this matter and are interesting themselves actively in his behalf. They argue that hi3 services in the House have been so eminently satisfactory to his constituents, not alone in his district, but throughout the entire State, that in the event of his becoming a candi date he will oe noerany supponeu from every quarter. He could, no doubt, count on practically the solid vote of the counties comprising his Congressional district. Like eyery other man in public life, Mr. Lever desires advancement. That is understood; but no one fancies relinguishing a \ certainty without reasonable assurance of attaining what is now merely prospective. This seems to be Mr. Lever'^ position and, after all?, it is up to him to cast the die and determine what course he will pursue." Derrick's Drug Store. -? A Fine Piece cf Road. About four miles of the old Augusta road has been clayed and put in proper shape through the efforts of the good people living in the vicinity of Mr. Will Taylor's, about five miles west of Lexington. Mention of this undertaking has been made in these columns before, and now that the work has been finished, it behooves other sections to take up the matter of road building. We understand that the county will agree to advance Si.00 to every doliar raised by popular subscription or otherwise, and this should tend to awaken a deeper interest among our people. Mr. Wiil Taylor deserves a great deal of credit for so successfully working up this scheme. Mr. James Fields had direct charge of the work on the road above mentioned, which reflects credit upon his good judgment as a road builder. ? ? Obituary.
