It has been rumored for some time that the Seaboard trestle, - now running through a portion of Columbia, will sooner or later be condemned. Looking toward this end and with a view to giving their patrons the verybest and safest service, the road now proposes, so it is said, to run their line up this side of the river in Lexington county until New Brookland is reached. They will then build a bridge over the Congaree and run up Senate street. At New Brookland a depot will be erected for the convenience of those living in and around Brookland. We would suggest, in | this connection, that the promoters gg: of the trolley lines join in witn tne Seaboard and build a double bridge, which could be done at a great saving io both companies. In our judgment the Seaboard would be wise in carrying out the new project. Not only would their business be largely injjbjv;. creased, but in time it would prove less expensive. We hope to see the | change made at no distant day. S& ' ___________ m*' - * Our space is very much in demand | ' for advertisements just atthis season and we feel like the farmers, who . V after hard toiling through the summer, "i; some times reap a harvest. Advertisements, however, should be good ^ and interesting reading matter, for ? j they are a directory full of inf ormolu tion and a saving, when properly considered. .They point you where to go I to find just what you need on the farm and in your homes, and the advantage you receive by trading with ; those who appreciate your trade. So patronize those who patronize your \ home paper and you will display the right spirit. \ } *' . * Autumn is here and the wea&er is feeling like fall, and with its first apMAMnAa {f l,a j nnf. nam Iff A infft OiUVV AV www y WW MVfi most every branch of trade and business. This will, of course, continue |r'; to grow as the atmosphere becomes * cold and the need of dry goods, shoes and clothing are in demand. Crops are being harvested w ith fine results from the year's labor, and naturally the farmers feel good; they will provide themselves with the needs and comforts of life, and, will now set to work to beautify their homes and im* prove their farms. Let the farmers market their cotton with cantion and not rush it all on the mariret at one time, and they will get better prices. The signs are that- neither the Columbia, Aiken and Augusta Trolly line, nor The South Carolina Public Service Corporation road from Qoluip - ? i t _ fl_1 3 _ i. Dia Via .Lexington do oaiuua, art; nut dead. The depression in mon^y matters up North for sometime past caused things to be in status quo. It is only a matter of time when both of these Toads will be built. From our exchanges we note the in??' , creased attendance at all schools and I colleges of the State. All seem to be enthused over the educational advantages now offered, realizing the value and true worth of education. There is nothing better for our rising generation than to. fit them out for life and to make them better men and women. The farmers and business men of Lexington, residing near Columbia, are becoming more and more interested in the free bridge matter. They are beginning to realize what a great saving free bridges would mean to them, and are ready to go down after the "long Green" to help secure them. This is the right spirit. The County Messenger published at Hartsville, Darlington county, has been purchased by T. H. Coker and L. W. Coker and we are glad it will continue almost under the same management. It is one of our most valued exchanges. Superintendent Williamson, of the Southern Railway, informs us that they expect enormous crowds to attend the State Fair and that the company will certainly have ample cars with good service to handle the visitors. Dirt has at last been broken on the long felt railroad, leading from Greenwood to Saluda. This is an independent line and will perhaps touch the Snnthem at Wards, or Johnston in time. Now for the free bridges over the Congaree, Broad, and Saluda rivers. We must have them.
