A number of our people are taking advantage of the cheap rates on the railroads and are visiting the several places of pleasure and sights to be seen. Crosson^of Leesville, is in New York where he will spend some time attenjding lectures and doing post graduate work, surgery, &c., in the hospitals, and paying special attention, to the diseases of women and children, that he may keep abreast in his profession, and rendei* his patients on return home such ser -vice as he may gain in this course of instruction. Crops. The crops, judging from our exchanges, are a failure in various parts of the State. This is especially true of the lower part of the State where the sand lands have been unable to stand the heavy and continuous rains. C., July 13.?Pearl Shaver raised a scene in Judge Hy> drick's office this morning when she persisted in the determination to go with her husband after the verdict in the habeas corpus proceedings which returned her to her father. She finally reluctantly agreed to return with her people after having been I advised to do so by every one in the I room, including Shaver's counsel, i Spartanburg, July 13.?Geo. Shaver, who was yesterday convicted upon 1 a combined charge of perjury | and marrying a girl under age, was I sentenced this, morning by Judge George E. Prince. For perjury Shaver received imprisonment of one year and a fine of $100. For marrying a girl under age the sentence was five years or $400. The Delineator for August.
