It is too dry to bunt possums. Sggs are high and are in demand. Now for tbe State Fair and the circus. Oar merchants are carrying some bvely gcods. Go to the polls on the 8 th of November and vote. Dr. Hendrix is preparing to build the annex to his drug store. Lawsj! How good end warm aDd comfortable quilts and blankets feel these cool nights. If the Democrats will do their ?*fcy on the Stb of November Lever will not be uoseated. Many a political candidate stands a his record for tbe purpose of keep log others from getting at it. The attempt to organize a Camp of the Woodmen of the World at $his place was a failure. More's the pity. "Ehjah" John Alexander Dowie, of Zion City, has ordered his followers j to vote the Republican ticket. Well, Misery loves company. Mrs. R. Hilton, who has been cpending some weeks among relatives in Brookland. has returned to her home at Saxe-Gotha. The Weekly Crop Report Bulletin, Published at Clemson, is hibernating?that is, it has suspended publication for the winter. The Bummer Girl has passed away. Only fond recollections of her short, oat beautiful bufcteifiy life remains to tell ns that she has been. John Sharp Williams, the Democratic leader of the House, counts - Slew York and West Virginia as safe for the Democrats. So mote it be. The safest plan is to vote "no" on ml! the proposed amendments to the . Constitution. It is better to endure the evils that we know of than to dee to those we know not of. The Attorney General is of the opinion that there must be separate * - - L J ?>0X88 lor voting on eauu jyrupuaeu Constitutional amendment. There are four proposed amendments to the Constitution hence there will be four additional boxes. The 24th of November is Thanks< giving Day. If Mr. Roosevelt would only be defeated.what songs of rejoicing would go up all over this fair Southland from thousands of gratefal hearts to Almighty God for his inestimable blessing. We ourselves would go to church and help to swell the grand old Long Meatre dcxotogy. The band is playing, the horses praoing, the cows iowiDg, bogs tquealing, the roosters crowing, bens cackling, docks quacking, the girls are flirting, the boys courting, the matrons gosipping and the 1 )rds of creation are buying peanuts and pop orn on the grounds of the County Fair today. The State Board of Dispensary Directors has received a petition from the people of Elloree asking that the , dispensary be removed from that town. Under the provisions of the amended Brice bill can this be done without the people of Eilorse first voting a tax upon themselves to pay the expenses of enforcing a prohibitory law? There 13 more Catarrh ia this section of the country than all other diseases put together, and until the last few years was supposed to be incurable. For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local disoase and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to care with local treatment, pronounced it incurable. Science has proven catarrh to be a constitutional disease and therefore requires constitutional treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Go. Toledo, Ohio, is the only constitutional cure on the market. It is taken internally in doses from 10 drops to a teaepoonful. It acts directly on the blood and mucous surfaces of the system. They offer one hundred dollars for any case it fails to cure. Send for particulars and testimonials. Address: F. J. Cheney <Sc Co., Toledo, Ohio. Sold bv druggists, 75 cents. Take Hall's Family Pills for constipation. Broad Biver Wat sr. Columbia Evening Record. The experts have decided to give us Broad River water. I have decided ever since I was a buy to drink this water. My father once ran boats on this river and he thought there wae no water better. A mountain and hilly country with the best of ; springs flowing in to make the river. He said his dogs had more sense than some people. When he went hunting on Saluda river and Congaree creek bis dogB would almost petish for water They would not drink until they got back to Broad river. Mr. Jankine, at the post office, and .MM sf wju o.hers, asked me why was it the-r horses would cot drink cold well water, and come and drink hot spout water. Its hard to fool dumb beasts about, water. I am told Glenn Springs was found to be a water of great value. It was discovered by the wild beasts of the forest. I think Columbia is blessed with good water. We have the BoiliDg springs, a good, pure spring water, brought to your house for 3 cents a -? * - 1 ... _ _ . X gallon. 1 don c Know mucn aooui distillery water. Tbey say rye and corn is all O. K. I do know Boiling spring water is good and pure, and everything is kept nice and clean st the spring. P. J. Rucker. [ Ylr. P. J Rucker, a scion of Lexington stock, but who has been residing in Columbia for a Dumber of years, has decided to continue the use of Broad river soup, when he can't get "Boiling springs water for 3 cents a gallon deliver at the door," for domestic purposes, because bis father's bounds preferred soup to water in the distant past. If we remember correctly, and we think we do as it has not been so long ago, Mr. Rucker discovered a well of pure water upon his premises in the suburbs of the city, which was extensively advertised as a founfcian of perpetual youth, whose waters would turn the most homely girl into a blushing maiden of sweet sixteeD, and the introduction of which into the system would make all the microbs to which flesh is heir come out faBter than the devils did the maniac in the Holy Land. He has sold that well now, because he hungered and thirsted after Broad river .J Cures Blood Poison, Cancers, Ulcers If you have offensive pimples or eruptions, ulcere an any part of the body, aching bones or joints, falling hfcir. mucous matches, swollen glands. skin itches and barns, sore lips or gums, eating, festering sores, sharp gnaging pains then you suffer from serious blood poison or the beginning of deadly cancer. We cannot understand, try as hard as we may, why some Columbia folks become so enthused at the mere mention of the proposition to connect Columbia and Newberry by a trolly line, and are so careless and indifferent in regard to a far more important project, when it comes to the consideration of the proposition to build one from that place, via Lexington, up the Saluda valley to Saluda Court House, and from thence to intersect the Seaboard Air Line at McComick or Greenwood. The line talked of to Newberry offers no inducements to the business interests of Columbia, or at least, sufficiently large to warrant the busi# j # . i _i _ ness men or mat city 10 aia in us construction, because that territory ia already amply supplied with transportation facilities and its trade covered by two railroad, whereas, the territory between Columbia and Saluda ia totally unprovided with transportation facilities. It is an extensive territory reaching from the Augusta Division of the Southern Riilway to the Saluda river and from Columbia to the Savannah river, practically having no outlet to market their produce without a great deal of inconvenience and considerable loss in time, money and patience. Th8 lands are fertile and very productive and the people are well-to-do and thrifty and have the means and inclination to materially assist in the construction of such an electric road through it. They are anxious for an outlet to market and it will certainly be to the interest of Columbia people to seek after the trade of the people residing within this territory, as they would naturally go to Columbia to transact business if the transportation facilities were such as to permit them to do so and the proper inducements were given, both of which could be accomplished by building the trolly line. Some Seasonable Advice. It may be a piece of superflous advice to urge people at this season of the year to lay in a supply of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy. It is almost sure to be needed before winter is over, and much more prompt duu cauoxav;a\jL J iucuild ?i xj uutuujvu when taken ?9 soon as a cold ie contracted and before il has become settled in the system, which can only be done by keeping the remedy at hand. This remedy ie so widely known and so altogether good that no one should hesitate about buying it in preference to any other. It is for sale by The Kaufmann Drug Co. Senator J. T. Hay, of Kershaw County, has announced his candidacy for Judge of the Fifth Circuit, now presided over by Judge Ernest Gary. Soft and crooked bones mean bad feeding.
