The Bell Phone Company, having scooped up the South Carolina Com| pany, have had linemen here taking out the South Carolina phones and replacing them with Bell ones. As the first act of the monopoly the charge for the use of the phones has been raised from cents to 1"> cents for three minutes. Sciffiil, of this county, has been given the beneficiary scholarship in the medical college at Charleston for one year. This scholarship was secured from Governor Hey ward through the efforts of Senator Sharpe. While in attendance upon court Senator W. H. Sharpe gave us a pleasant call. He is full to overflowing with politics and will certainly entertain the people on the hustings this campaign. Rev. J. G. Graichen, the gifted and beloved pastor of St. Stephen e Evangelical Lutheran church, delivered a very interesting and eloquent sermon last Sunday morning j and afterwards administered sacre- j ment to a large congregation.
