TDe Lexington Dispatch Wednesday, December 2, 1903. In Ltemoriam. Manuel Simeon Corley passed from his earthly life today, one year ago, at bis home at Lexington, S. C, in the 80th year of his age. Being a poor boy, he learned in his childhood how to combat adverse circumstances and he began early in life these I begat habits of self-reliance and fortitude?the foundation of his exalted j character. When a young man he I consecrated himself to Christ. A9 a Christian he labored zealously in various capacities in the church and otherwise for the advancement and rt kia -fnllnwmpri. To ttiumuiauuu u< u?w ?-? bim as a Sunday school teacher the writer owes his first appreciation of the saving and sustaining efficacy of the Gospel of Christ and with deep gratitnde ascribes to him Christian x influences which had much to do with whatever of usefulness he has attained to in this world. His firm adherence to the principles of right and his hatred and uncompromising hotility to whatever he considered wrong and unjust, either in individ uals or in government, were eonspicT none and consistent throughout his long life, and won the admiration of all friends and opponents. In all his relations to his fellowmen, as a Christian man in the humble walks of life, as a citizen in his fidelity to his country, as a representative iu Congress, be illustrated the noblest qualities of man. He was universally beloved as generous, kind, honest, honorable and true. Some day "when the clouds are rifted, in the land of the true, where ' we live anew," midst the splendors of that beautiful land, we hope to see him again with his crown of victory resplendent with the many stars won in the conflict here.
