Lightning's Work. During the rain Sunday about midday a thunderbolt struck a sycamore tree in the yard of Cjptain George Sawyer, in this place, and in its passage down the trunk it completely stripped the ivy which had grown upon it for years. The currents divided one of which struck his daughter, Miss Marie, who was in the yard at the time, knocking her down, and passing down her body burning the flesh severely, but fortunately doing no serious injury to her, and the other struck a cedar tree near the house shattering the v glass in the windows. Dr. Blue Mountain Joe Harman, besides being a Nimrod of wide repute, has lately developed into an enthusiastic and successful disciple of j Sir Isack Walton. On his last trip j to Black creek he and Davis and Babe Gantt spent the night gigging. They succeded in killing a trout so large, so Dr. Blue Mountain Joe af- j firms, that in taking it from the creek the waters fell five feet and the boat was nearly swamped by the tidal waves. As proof of this assertion he brought the head of the alleged monster home, which, to our experienced eye, looked as if it came from a trout that weighed about a pound and a quarter. Prof. Spillman, of the United States Department of Agriculture, met about 150 of our leading and pro gressive farmers in the court house last Saturday. His mission was one of much importance to our stockraisers as well as to our agricultural friends and his lecture on grasses and forage crops was very instructive and was in some respects an eye opener to many who have never given the soil and plant much thoughtful study. He gave out many specimens to those who obligated to cultivate them and send the result to the department at Washington. Much good has been accomplished and new interest awakened by Prof. Spillman's visit and it will not ?% barren of results. Honesty is Their Motto. I W e have warned delinquent subi scribers time and again that we ex! pected a settlement in one way or ! the another, to which little or no I heed has been given by many. We ; want it thoroughly understood that ? wo cannot afford to carry those dur! ing the dull summer months, who are more than a year behind and unless they call, or send, and settle j up we will be compelled, reluctantly | though it may be, to drop them.
