Bry 1, 1902. Flowers. Diaoatcb: On the morning of the 10th of December, at 10 o'clock, we boarded the Seaboard Air Line Kailway in Co lambia for Fort White, Fia. Passing out of the city on the high trestle, and crossing the Congarce river over into Lsxington, we moved with rapidly increasing speed through a country that looked barren and very poor. A liwnlnr, of TOoorv> or-lr ohnilf. 1 1 '30 .TcLXiTliJ^ Ck \J X/VUUUJ&O uv^v>v ? we stopped for about a minute. From thence we rolled on to Fairfax, arriving there at 12 m. After a stop of a minute, we again began moving and passed through a low marshy country which marked the approach to the Savannah river, and croesing it at 1 p. mWe arrived in the beautiful city of Savannah at 1:40 p. m., and stopped there 9 minutes. Afterleavir^ Savannah we arrived at Jacksonville, Fla, at 5 p. m., where we changed cars for Lake City, making that point at about 7 p. m. Here we had to camp for the night. The next morning we boarded the cars at 7 a. rn., for Fort White, reaching that point at 9 a. m., where we were met by our family connections and took breakfast with them. We made this place our headquarters during our stay in Florida. From this place we went cut over the country' visiting our relatives and looking at the country, seeing many curiosities and strange things. Among the many strange thiDgs that we saw were the sinks in tne ground all over the country, some of them as deep as 30 feet and some containing water while others were dry. The country is filled with salamander and gopher holes, but we never got to see one of them as they had gone into winter quarters. The storm that visit ed S. C. some years ago blew down all of their timber and the country is very open. The greatest curiosity that we saw was the Ectratucacee river which makes a river large enough from the head to run boats upon it. There seems to be five or six streams springing up from the bowels of the earth as large as barrels forming a river from the source head. I was told that the water at the springs was thirty feet deep and I thought I could see to the bottom. I put my band in the water and it was as warm as artesian water. I was told that this stream can be traced for miles through the country where it runs under the ground by the sinks in the earth, finally burst ing from the bowles of the earth and making a river from the head. I was also told of another stream that runs on top of the ground and then goes down into the earth and then lost to sight. Florida seems to abound in these subterrecean streams. Near Lake City are many lakes that look like they cover hundreds of acres of land and of immense depth, abounding with fish of various kinds. These lakes have no inlet nor outlet. The city receives its name from them. Oa the cars from Jacksonville to Lake City I saw a man who was pointed out to me as the largest man in the world, weighing 750 pounds, going to Lake City to be exhibited. There are no oranees in Columbia county, tbe freeze some years ago having killed all the trees. After traveling over tbe country for ten days, we turned our faces "homeward, boarding the cars at Fort White at 2 p. m. on tbe 20th day of December, reaching Columbia, S. C., on the morning of the 21st, at 4 o'clock and remaining there until 4 p. m., when we boarded the cars for Lexington, S. C Frank J. Harman. Lexington, S. C. Will You Sleep Well To-night? Not if you have a cough that begins to torment you as soon as you lie dowD. You can conquer the cough with Allen's LunghSalsam, which will relieve the pain in the chest, the irritation in the throat and. the hard breathing. Since it contains no opium, this remedy may be given freely to children, and to the most delicate adults. Life is a joke just as long as you are the joker. j Deafness Cannot be Cured By local applications as they cannot reach the diseased portion of the ear. There ie only one vcay to cure ' deafness, and that is by constitutional | 1 remiedies. Deafness is caused by an i inflimed coudition of the mucous lining of the Eustachian Tube. When 1 this tube is inflamed you have a rumbling scuDd or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed. Deafness is the result, and unless the inflammation can be taken cut and this tube restored to its normal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by j Catarrh, which is nothing but an inflamed condition of the mucous surfaces. We will give Oce Hundred Dollars for any case of Deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Send for cir- ' culars, fee. < F. J. The ceremony was performed by the i pastor ol tbe young coupie, nev. w. ? H.
