John Raueh, who lived two miles from town on the Wyes* Ferry road from Lexington. Mr. Rauch was for many years a director of the classical and theological seminary. Many of the young men boarded with him, and he was of much service to them, as he seemed to know the whole Latin course by heart. He was a most genial and excellent man, and the State of South Carolina lost much when he was removed to Mississippi. He entered the Lutheran ministry in bis old day, and did good services for the church. "Senator McLaurin of Mississippi has a family of which he may well be proud. Mrs. McLaurin was Miss Laura Rauch, born at Lexington, S. C., but brought up in Mississippi. Her father, of German desent, was one of the finest classical scholars of the State. Mr. and Mrs. McLaurin fell in love when they were children at school together. She was married when she was not quite 20 and he 1 two or three years past, and they have remained devoted lovers ever since. Mrs. McLaurin looks very youth- ; ful to the mother of eight children. . She is fair, with blue eyes, abundant ( silky light brown hair, and has a | slender figure of medium height. 1 Her manner is pleasant and winning. There eight children?seven daughters and one son, Anselm J., .Tr. ji hnVht and clever lad of 11, " "J O wonderfully unspoiled considering how many sisters he has to pet him. The three eldest daughters? Stella, Delta and Daisy?have graduated with high honors and are accomplished beyond the average well educated girl. They are all pretty, with beautiful complexions and fine figures. Stella, who became last April the bride of Dr. Berry of Jackson, Miss., was considered one of the most perfectly beautiful girls in the south as well as one of the most talented. Delta Upsilon, the second, has diplomas in four languages besides / uer own, is well read in ancient and ] modern literature, takes a deep in- 1 Lerest in the leading questions of the J Say and talks well about them, but , :s rather reserved. She is a graceful r md fearless horse-woman too. ] Daisy Ellen made her debut last winter and became a belle at once. She is somewhat taller than her sis- j :ers. with a beautiful, erect figure ' ? md fine carriage. Her complexion ^ s exquisite, her expression bright ^ md animated, and there are pretty j. limples in her cheeks. She siugs j md plays well and recites finely. The other girls are Mary, Irene, ^ jrace and Jean, schoolgirls yet, and Laura, the baby, a blond fairy 5 ^ rears old. C The Discovery Saved His c Life. i Mr. G.
