Greenwood and Edgefield Join in Distributing Official Guide Map. Will Join Augusta, Savannah, Bruns wick, Jacksonville and Others in Distributing Map in North, East and West-Dixie Highway a Great Asset for This Sec tion of the Country. With the completion of the Dixie Highway Division passing from Ashe ville through Greenville, Greenwood, Edgefield and into Augusta and on to Savannah, there is opened up to this territory another artery or trunk line highway. The business interests living along ,this highway have made large expen ditures and in many places personal sacrifices in order that the highway be completed. This is now an accom plished fact. There is no better high way to be found in this: section of the- South. Passing as it does,' from the mountains to the sea it offers to our people hte greatest advantage to be found in automobile travel and the men who completed this highway'have given South Carolina and Georgia an internal revenue from both commer cial and pleasure standpoint. At a meeting in Greenwood Friday night, presided over by President R. B. Cur ry of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Curry made a pleas ing address, in which he outlined the value of the Dixie Highway, and stat ed that the meeting was called to dis cuss the advisability of entering into the coooperation publicity plan the city of Augusta is now forming in or der to distribute the United States Official Highway Road Guides through out the North this summer. Mr. Cur ry's address inspired men who had heretofore^ known nothing of the val ue of the Dixie Highway. A special delegation from Edge field attended this meeting"*and Mr. J. H. Cantelou, president of the Edge field Chamber of Commerce, outlined the future policy of Edgefield, and stated inforcible language that Edge field intended to assist in making the Dixie Highway a trunk- line from the West, North and East through the South and jon Into Florida. He stated that Edgefield had thoroughly inves tigated the pommercial value of the if highway and he assured the meeting that from the tourists travel alone Edgefield would be willing to exert . ?very effort toward any plan for pub-, licity Augusta or ?ny other city start ed and they had agreed to co-operate with Augusta on the Official Road Map distribution. Mr. Vause, of the Dixie Highway Hotel, Eq?efield, made an address to the meeting outlining the value as seen from a hotel man's standpoint, although Mr. Vause was instrument al in establishing a free motor camp ground in Edgefield. During the .meeting a 'phone message was re ceived from Mayor Hertzog, of Greenwood, stating that the city council was in session but would like to attend this meeting in a body which they did and Mayor Hertzog, in speaking for Greenwood, assured the gentlemen present that Green wood was alive to the situation and ! thoroughly endorsed and would co operate financially with Augusta, Sa vannah, Brunswick, Jacksonville and all the towns so far enlisted in the plan to distribute the Official High way Map throughout the North this summer. He stated that he knew a great caravan of people could be in duced to travel this way, to settle in .our country, to help develop our "farming industries and, in short, he considered the Dixie Highway one of the greatest assets this state or any other state possessed through which it passed. After a few moments discussion re . solutions were sent to this paper by the Greenwood Chamber of Com merce and the Edgefield Chamber of Commerce complimenting the city of Augusta on its broad plan of endeav or and stating that they would co operate fully ?md assist in every man ner towards making the proposition the biggest success possible. The Chronicle wishes to extend its thanks for the courteous attention :given Mr. Chas. F. Rossignol, who ?explained this proposition at the above mentioned meeting and to the Oregon Hotel for courtesies to Mr. Rossignol.-Augusta Chronicle. ! Why That Headache?
