Yesterday when the license fee of 81,500, which must be paid in advance, became due hundreds of places failed to open their doors. In smaller cities the operation of the new State law providing that af ter September 30th there could only be one saloon to every 500 inhabi tants in political sub-divisions hav ing less than 55,000 population will result in closing some 1,500 saloons m the State this month, according lo William McClelanahan, president ?f the Retail Liquor Dealers' Asso ciation. If the present situation continues Mr. McClelanahan said, 3,000 saloons iu the State will have to close their doors in the next six months.
