Walker is conducting: revival services in the Methodist church at Trenton this week, being assisted by Rev. C. E. Peele of Leesville. Another visitor at this home is Mr. Charlie Ford from Columbia, the gnest of Mr. George Day. The glorious rains have been a blessing to humanity, vegetation j and life of evefry form. The mental j anguish of the farmers in every part J of the county has been relieved by the refreshing rains. Mr. L. R. Jones who for some months has made Columbia his headquarters is taking the place on the Ederen eld-Aiken road of Mr. John L. Addison who is taking a short vacation. Mr. Julian Key is over from Co-1 lnmbia spending his vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Key. Mr. Key has firmly established himself as a young business man of Columbia. Miss June Rainsford has joined Miss Elizabeth Rainsford in isew York. She will spend a month in the metropolis while Miss Elizabeth is taking a special course in Columbia University. Dr. E. Pendleton Jones is assist ing in revival cervices in Anderson this week. As the meet ing in Anderson will hst through Sunday, there will be no preaching service in the Baptist church next Sunday. . Mr. L. T. Courtney, the repre sentative of Furman Fitting behool, spent several days last week with Rev. J. T. Littlejohn at "Rose Cot tage." He is making a tour of the ?tate in the interest of the Fitting School. Mr. Jacob S. Smith has purchased the farm of Mr. C. E. Quarles on the Trenton road beyond the trestle. It is reported that the price paid was $3,000. Thi9 is regarded as one of the most valuable farms that is located near town. Congressman James F. Byrnes stopped in 'Edgefield while en route to attend the Grifiis picnic Fri day and his friends greeted him very cordially.% Mr. Byrnes is very popular in Edgefield, both town and county. Rev. P. B. Lanham has conduct ed a very successful meeting at Mt. Zion church. Rev. Joseph A. Gaines, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Gaines, preached twice each day. He is servinjf a large church in West Baden, Ind., but is now spending hi? vacation with his parents. Rev. H?. Oaiaee will preach at Gilgal church next Sunday. Mrs. L. Y. Moore came over from Columbia and spent the week-end here with Capt. Moore. Miss Chailoite Bro wn of Abbe ville is the guest of Misses Emily and Lilly Abaras. Mr. R. C. Padgett has gone to Chick Spring's for a stay of several weeks. Mrs. Padgett will join him in a few days. Mr. T. A. Broadwater has just completed a very successful season with his thresher, having been threshing wheat and oats since early in June. The Junior Order of American Mechanics which was recently or ganized in Edgefield continues to sri ow. At every meeting new mem bers are added to the roll of this popular omer. Elections for cotton weigher will be held at Johnston, Plum Branch and Edgefield Saturday, August 7, by order of the county board of commissioners. Letting the farmers select their own weigher has proven very satisfactory in the past. Married, Sunday morning, July 25th, by Rev. J. R. McKittrick, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Y. M. Faulkner, Miss Hattie Faulkner and Mr. Robert M. Harling, both of the Mountain Creek section. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Cogburn will occupy the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Hart early in Sep tember. Mr. Hart has accepted a school in Lee county and will take his family with him. Julian D. Holstein, Jr., Miss Maiion Blalock, Miss Helen Till man and Miss Marion Bailey are guests of Miss Mary Anderson at a house party given at her home on Edisto Island. The merry party mo tored to Charleston Tuesday in Mr. Holstein's car. Mr. J. C. Morgan's pig club has had a Jersey cow and two tine colts added to it. Mr. B. D. Kitchings sent The Advertiser a message to the effect that he wants to add a Jer sey cow and two fine mule colts to Mr. Morgan's offer of a pair of Berkshire pigs to the person who can find a man who has been made a better citizen by drinking whiskey. Mr. Walter Smith told us some days ago that his roller mill is run ning full capacity, turning out near ly 50 barrels of first-class flour every day. So great has been the rush that at the time we had the conversation with Mr. Smith he had been unable to grrind any of his toll wheat. Mr. Smith mill makes bet ter flour than any that is shipped from the west. Mr. E. H. Crews, The Advertis er's efficient and popular foreman, is enjoying a week's vacation at tis former home in Laurens. During his absence his place on The Adver tiser is being filled by his brother, Mi. J. T. Crews. These gentlemen are sons of the late Col. T. B. Crewi, who for fifty years was editor and proprietor of the Lau rens Herald. They are worthy sons of an honored eire. Register, Register. Elsewhere in this issue will be found an official notice from the supervisors of registration, which states that the books will be opened until the night of Saturday August 14. For the convenience of the peo ple, the members of the board will visit several places iu the county. The schedule of these appointments is given in the official uotice. See that your neighbors register for the election of September 14. Magistrate Brimson. On account of ill health Mr. C. E. Quarles has been forced to re sign as magistrate of the 1st mag isterial district and the members of the delegation to the general as sembly have recommended Mr. N. L. Branson for the place. The ap pointment of Mr. Brunson will give general satisfaction, he having served for a number of years as magistrate previous to the election of Mr. Quarles last summer.
