Crown and Bridge werk a specialty. James A. Dobey, DENTAL SURGEON, Johnston, S. C. Office Over Farmers' Bank. Dr. Jeffries Position Commend ed. Dispensary Condemned. Mr. Editor: The cold, the snow, the rain and the freshet! Yet Prov idence has been good to us. We are yet living in good health, able to work and enjoy three good meals a day. Our hills have been beautiful for the last ten days, covered with peach blooms. The foliage has just commenced to make its appear ance, and we are hopeful of a boun tiful harvest, which will be, if there is no more killing frost. Mr. W. S. Middleton and W. M. Rowland, each have a car of fertili zer for their trees. Mr. Middleton has placed his order for six thou sand crates. There has been very little farm work done. Messrs. Middleton and Rich are ordering car after car of guano for the farms, which is a sign that we expect to plow after awhile. Messrs. W. S. Middleton, and H. E. Bunch each purchased a fine mule this week. We have been working the roads and have more to do, unless we are stopped by the officer of the law. I am proud of the stand you take in regard to the rotten dispensary. I always thought you were a man of back-bone, now I know it. Give rae a man with a back-bone as big as a tent pole, who is not afraid or ashamed to denounce evil. I de spise a double back action, revolv ing turn somer-sault man. I endorse Dr. Jeffries' position. If you are going in to make money out of evil, why not take all in? There are other and cheaper evils that bring in a handsome revenue. The idea of investing a dollar to make ten cents. Why not give the dollar in stead of throwing it away? I can safely say that 99 per cent of Clark's Hill will vote "agin" the dispen sary. No drunken crowds to handle." I said, do you think prohibition beneficial?" "Why certainly'' he said. Icare not what anyone says, there is not one tenth the liquor drank now as here tofore. Of course there is no hope foran old sot, but you can no more keep a crowd of drunkards than you can a standing army without a recruiting office. The old sot will soon pass away. It is the young men, the hope of our country that I am anxious about. The dispensa ry is the finest recruiting office that it is possible to establish, which no one can deny. We will meet them at the ballot box. I havp confidence in the manhood of Edgefield county. Mr. J. P. Nixon and J. P. Jr., spent Thursday and Thursday night in Augusta with relatives. Little Miss Hattie E. Nixon is doing fine and pretty as a peach. Our telephone system has been overhauled by Messrs. R. H. Mid dleton and S. T. Adams, and is in fine talking order.
