Stand of Cotton Good, Promise of Increase m Corn, Reho both a ^aW*t?H? ? Church. (Written fotylast week), t Our fanners, have about finished planting cotton and stands: of early planting .are' generally good. ^At tention is BOW* being given, to pre ps 'ig the soil for and planting - corn, of which, every farmer will try to- make a sufficiency for. home con sumption at least this year. The recent rains have brought about a wonderful transformation in the small- grain, which is now generally considered as fairly good.; Quite a large crowd attended ser vices last Sunday morning at Reho both and enjoyed an exc?llent ser mon by Rev. X T: Littlejohn. He used as the foundation for his re marks Numbers 14th and part of the 25th verse: A call to come out of the wilderness of sin and accept the blessings of joy,, peace and hap piness that God offered to us. "We were glad td haye quite a number of visitors to worship wii^i us Sunday morning. Among those present being xMr. and Mrs. E. C. j Winn, Mr. J. C. Seigler, Miss Essie Seigler, Dr. and Mrs. Adams, all from Plum Branch; Messrs. Til Seigler and Dannie Bell, from Parksville; Mr. and Mrs. Tandy Broadwater and their four bright and sweet little girlsjof Trenton, and Mr. J. L. Gilchrist frem near Au gusta. Nearly all of these are Reho both people who have moved from the community in the last few years - and their presence is sadly missed in our church, and Sunday school, as well as socially. Our B. Y. P. U., which meets >- only once a month, carried- out a most excellent program arranged for last first Sunday morning. Mr. W". M. Strom, our newly elected presi dent presides with dignity and ease, and all of pur young .people are greatly cnthuited over the work. Already the Rehoboth people are looking forwarajwith pleasure to the coming union meeting of the sec ond division, which, is to meet with us on Saturday before the fifth Snn day in the month. We hope every ch?rphin the union will be well represented and every appointed speaker present with a good speech ready. Mr. R. T. West, carpenter and contractor, completed a job for Mrs. Burkhalter near Augusta-last week /and will start to work soon on a . dwelling for Mr. R. J. Moultrie at his mill on '.rurkey Creek. > SUBSCRIBER. Loving Tribute to General C Butler. While the papers are publish! _ high tributes to Gen. M. C. Butler for his bravery as a1 soldier, for his fearlessness as a statesman, for uprightness of character, and all the virtues that make the Southern gentleman, its is my pleasure and privilege to tell of the goodness of his heart, the kindness of his nature and the nobleness of his just and weil balanced mind. "I have known bim since my boy hood, and have lived near him a my life. Since he has made his home in Edgefield for the past few years, I have lived in calling distance of his door.- He admitted me into the circle of his friendship, and I am a better man today for the hours I spent in bis society. Day after, day ' I spent hours with him and learned from his conversation and daily life that he; was not only a great man but a good, generous, warm hearted man, wishing good to all and speak ing harm of none. He was a philosopher; for he bore the brunt of trouble and adverse for tune without bitterness. Gen. Butler was a man and spoke out manfully ia defense of his own rights and opinions, andjallowed otb ers the same privilege. Ijle was a gentleman, for he treated every one, no matter what bis sta ti on, with, that courtesy and polite ness a true gentleman always shows. He was a wise man, for in the reading of many books his simplici ty of faith and love of humanity was not warped. \ . t He was a christian, for he spoke ill of none but had charity and kind ness for the weakness of mankind. Although I am a poor man in the humble walk of life, he made me bis friend. Worldly rank and wealth did not influence him,as many a poor man can testify. He help ed us as a brother, or as one com rade would help another, and not as one conferring a favor. He will live long in the hearts of those who knew him intimately and loved him in his latter days, of whom I ap one. J. W. REECE. Quality counts in coffee as in everything else. Too much could not be said for M|rs. Mamie Walker, the wise, the energetic, the indefatigable princi pal of the" school. Her work, though a frail woman, is a marvel to us all, and must be in a measure to herself, and my advice to White Town is to keep her l?Oyearsif she nhould live so long a time. Thus ended one of the most instructive and pleasant days of our lives and now old Sol began to sl?nt towards the western horizon, and we saw friends and lovers say good bye and the lovers said good bye solemnly, with that peculiar tone, and sly look that only a lover can make, all of /which be tokens sorrow, that the 'da^v had not been 72 hours or more long. .If we live we want to attend next com mencement. In my last I spoke of our nice, efficient and capable post mistress, Miss Sallie JParks, but failed to mention the fact, that recently her assistant, Miss Annie McDon ald, was sworn in by Mr. D. N. Dorn. Miss Annie is a beautiful girl, no less obliging than Miss Sal lie, and we.are prouder of nothing in our tov^n than our pretty and amiable post mistresses., Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Parks visit ed their sons, J^iessrs. This paper is high ly instructive and educative in that it showed what science teaches rela tive to alcohol upon the brain and other onrans. poisoning tho mind debauching the moral character, . and brings ,on disease arid premature death. The paper was very highly spoken of by all who heard it. The paper was so highly thought of that a. motion was made and carried re questing it fur publication ?ri The Advertiser. Miss Martha Dorn read a most excellent paper showing that alco hol was hot necessary to body or mind. The meeting was then thrown open for general discussion and ex cellent speeches. were made by J.
