Ou Sunday morning last te tween 6:30 and 7 o'clock two ne groes, Joe Adams and William Gil christ, escaped from the county jail. The former-was indicted fo carrying an unlawful gnu and the latter for stealing a cow. The jail er, Mr. M. S. Banks, who bad charge of the prisoners, says that they escaped when he went up to give them breaafast, informing the sheriff that in his opinion they had a key. When this occurred Sheriff Ouzts was in the Dry Creek section, having gone toatteud the centennial service which was hell on Su rd av. A Knight of the Grip. On Monday last Mr. James B. Kenner'y left for Columbus, Ohio, having resigned his. position as salesman with Messrs. Dorn & Mims to accept a position as trav elling salesman for the large shoe manufacturers of Columbus. After spending several days in the fac tory getting together his line of samples Mr. Kennedy will take up his regular work in North Caro lina, to which state he bas been assigued. When not actually on the road, however, he will make Edgefiold his home and# head quarters. So competent and faith ful has been Mr. Kenuerly iu the discbarge of his duty as salesman that Messrs. Dorn & Mims were ?loath to give him up. His friends lin Edgefield, and everybody is his J frieud, regret his departure from our midst. Let us hope that bis 'visits to us will be frequent and uoi ol sbo.t duration. May that large measure of success which he so richly deserves attend him in nis new field ! A Dearth of Candidates. Seemingly the people of Ander son county do not deem it any great honor to be a member of the House of Representatives. The ( ouuty is eutitled to five represen tatives and so far only four can didates have offered. Under the rules of the party, should no oue elbe become a caudidate the four who are out cannot be legally elec ted. The rules require that each voter shall votn for as many can didates for a given office as there are -vacancies to be filled. Has Anderson county no men of Edge field extraction within her bor ders? lt seems not, for their in herited penchant, for office would have torced them to. ofter long ago their services in this capacity to to the dear people. Wouder if An derson wouldn't be gracious enough to lend u? her vacant seat :u the House? We have in this cc?nty more men than seals and some .of them will have to stand out in the cold. Profession Not Over-Crowded. Some physicians who reside in the rural districts, like, many who j .minister to the spiritual needs of J humanity, have to cover a region of many square miles, in their j work' o?Telieving the suffering and curing the ills of the fle?h. Just as a pastor will- sometimes serve churches that are thirty, forty and fifty miles apart, so will a pnysi cian, owing to the spais-ly settled condition, have to ride across sev-j eral townships to visit a patient. ?A notable example of the latter is| found in the vast scope of couutry that stietchesout north of,Edge-| field, reaching as far as Ninety Six. So far as our information goes, this section, thirty-odd miles in length and nearly half, as many in width, has only two resident physicians who are actively enga ged in the practice of their r-rofes sion, these two being Dr. W. D. Ouzls and Dr. J. G. Edwards-the former residing at Elmwood and :he latter at Meeting Street. While it'may be some advantage tothe:3 gentlemen in not having the pro fes, ion over-crowded, yet it is a disadvantage when tbe^'are sum moned by a patient who resides many miles distant and who wa6 uever known to pay a d ictor's bill -not even in''chips and whet-1 stones". The laborer is worthy of | his hire, and certainly the family physician who rides, day and night through fair weather and foul, many miles to see a patient, should be paid. stands so em phatically for perfect nutrition. And yet in the matter of restor ing appetite, of giving new strength to the tissues, especially to the nerves, its action is that of a medicine. Send for free sample.
