Liberal contracts made for three, six, and twelve months THE ADVERTISER, Edgefield, S. C. WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 3, 1902. Spartanburg county had only 18 candidates for thc leg islature. Hey ward or Talbert, which ? Edgefield county should poll 1,500 votes for Talbert. Who said that newspaper criticism and opposition would elect Jim Tillman ? A new word has been coin ed-De Camp. To ''decamp*3 a politician is to decapitate him. ^V^he flood tide of ballot casting in South Carolina was reached ih the recent primary -95,000. . -?K$> In the main the contests for the several national, state and county prizes have been un precedentedly close. If tiley covet victory and not defeat the moral for poli ticians to learn from the cam paign just closed is to "stand in" with the press as well as with the people. Latimer or Evans, which ? We will let each voter decide for himself. Vote for the one who in your judgement will most creditably represent South Carolina in the United States senate. Charleston seems determin ed to elect Von Kolnitz to the senate as a rebuke to Senator Tillman for his threatened co ercion. Had Von Kolnitz [re ceived 104 more votes he would have, been elected in the first primary. \ * -<$> We shall soon see whether or-not Latimer sowed his government seed in good ground and whether or not Evans' dollars, said to have been invested in ''heelers' ' and primaries, proved to be a profitable investment. ??<.>*? The people o f Edgefield county are sorely and griev ously afflicted. They have just emerged from one elec tion, are on the verge of a second and it is quite proba ble that a third will be neces sary before all of the plums are awarded. If we remember aright, on divers occasions Evans charg ed Latimer with dispensing government seed and free passes to advance his political interests j now it is reported that Evans expended a con siderable sum of money in the first primary to obtain votes in Charleston.
