THE ADVERTISER. Tero?* 93,00 per Annum. Removal of Geni. M. c. Butler. Our distinguished and much-beloved felIow-cit?>en, Gani. M. C. BUTLER, has, within tfaepast week, removed from our midst, and taken, up his residence in Co lumbial' 'Whether this move of Geni. B. will be*te?wtely permanent, wo cannot just now.say. He leaves behind h'm, with a brother, two little boys, at school here. . As is perhaps already generaUy known, lt is highly probable that Genl. BUTLER wiU soon assume the chief conduct and editorship of a Democratic Daily Newspa per in Columbia, Li South Carolina there would seem to be at present, a fine opening for such an enterprise. Np man living stands higher in the heart" of Edgefield than Genl. BUTLER. No citizen could leave our community .whose withdrawal would be more deep ly felt and regretted. But for the present we will not cease to look upon him as a townsman. Happiness and success be his, wherever he may set up his rest ! The Sunday-School Festivals. The past week was marked by two Sunday-School Festivals-that of the three Churches in our midst-and that of Mt. Tibor, Harmony, Rocky Creek and Dry Creek. The village affair, on Friday las., was small, modest and unpretend ing-young girls and boys in wagons without fixings or finery-merry as lar ks -driving to a shady dell four miles out -with baskets of edibles-and a lbw se date sheep dogs of either sex to keep up the proprieties-rambling under the green shade--playing croquet, marbles and mumble-peg-all youthful, and fresh, and unconventional. But not so at Mt. Tabor on Saturday. This was the largest, handsomest, most expensive, most elaborate C?l?bration perhaps that has ever taken place in our section. Imagine w'*at such a combina tion as Mt. Tabor, Harmony, Rocky Creek and Dry Creek could do if they set their heads to it ! Well, they did set their heads to it, and their hands too, and also their hearts. And they did it splen didly! The scene was Mt. Tabor. The adhe rents of each Church out in full force and full feather. Four Sunday-Schools, each in procession, and each with a dis tinct banner. The Church beautifully dec orated with flowers, evergreens and mot toes. Spirited and appropriate singing by the children, .accompanied at thc Me lodeon by Miss CADDIE WARREX. TWO addresses-both exc?Uent-admirably combining instruction and entertainment -the ?no by Mr. J. J. MCDANIEL, the other by Mr. RODERT CAXXOX. Superb dinner, endless in profusion, in variety, in richness. Beautiful day, perfect order and harmony, unflagging attention, suf fused eyes and animated countenances indications of the universal interest felt on the occasion, and of tho enjoyment experienced by aU. The whole Celebra tion was a success and a joy. To our gra cious God bo rendered thc grateful "hom age of our hearts, for these-and so many other-privileges ! A Warning to Such Kn Klux as Are Not Righteously Anointed. " THE DAY OF GRACE IS SHORT." Quake, oh yo sacrilegious ones, if any such' there be, who have rashly taken upon /ourselvesthe Ku Klux functions! Read tue stern order annexed, and call upon the mountains to hide you. This order we found in our offico early this morning. How or by whom it -was placed on our desk we know not. Wo keep the original. Of course we would not dream of refusing to publish such an order. -Where would bo our portion if we should? And as we interpret it, it is rather a wise order. It seems to say that Tom, Dick and Harry must not imagine themselves Ku Klux. Very good. Of course the truly and righteously anointed will be wiser chan profane interlopers. And those whose day of grace is said to be short ! Horrible ! Better for them that an earthquake should swallow them up ! But here's the order as wc received it : GENERAL ORDERS, NO. 199. H'D. QBS. K. K. K. The Commanding Officer having been informed that Dave Harris and Lawrence Cain have received orders, (purporting to come from the K. K.) to vacate their offices and premises, .feels it to be his duty to the parties interested, to publish the following order: Wo warn, in the most solemn manner, any one from acting, in any way, under the name and style of the K. K. We are perfectly able, and ready to dis charge all the duties that may come be fore us. Any one guilty of thc above offence again, will be attended to. In thc meantime, all thc scoundrels, now proving upon tho property and rights of honest men, may rest assured, that their day of grace is very short. When wc strike-look cut ! X. Y. Z Commander. - P.efusc or neglect to publish-at your peril. X. Y. Z. Domestic Enerpy uud Exquisite Taste. We have to thank our honored friend, Mrs. LEWIS JOXKS, Sr.. for the most beautiful waiter of Vegetables and Flow ers wo have ever soon. As regards Veg etables, the thing is finally out. Mrs. J ox KS wears thc crown with perfect se curity. Imagine a Cabbage, at this sea son, as large as you generally find them in November, and as hard as Plymouth Rook ! And Beets and Onions, one of which woidd fill a dish ! And a Bouquet which would runBERCICMAXScrazy! Wc 3iav<0 eaten, we have gazed, wc have in haled perfumo ; and now wc bow and ,smile our best thanks. - i* 11,it?-- -? A few days ago a negro by thc name ol' John Dozier, broke into the store of Dr. J. M. In a short while, Dr. RUSHTON discovered the theit, pursued the theif, captured him at Minni" Depot, and re covered about $30 of tho atol cn money. Dozier is now in jail-and expects to be splitting rock in the Penitentiary in the course of a few weeks. ^3c?-All lovers of horse racing-of all lield sports the most noble and elevating - viii bt>*r in mind that a single dash threc-quartc* mile race, for $2,000, be tween Col, THOS. Through all this vast stretch of God's world, is tho Universal Life Insurance Company of New York, now talked of. Nay more-patronized and strongly up held. Capt. GEORGE LAKE introduces it in Edgefield. Capt. LAKE is a man among men, and a prince among Under writers. Until next week, we hope o?r readers will study well tho hugo and interesting advertisement of the Uni. versal, to be found on another column. Then we shall allude more distinctly to some of the salient features of this great Company. " The Cynosure of a Fall-Orbed Epicycle." Col. CARY W. STYLES, editor of the Albany (Ga.) Netcs, a gallant gentleman who knows and loves the people of Edge field, was in Augusta at the late Fair, at tended the Ball, and in an extremely en tertaiiling account of the same, in the News, speaks thus : Carolina was gracefully represented by one of her fairest and most charming daughters. Miss E. B., of Edgefield, the daughter of a quiet, modest, honestgen tleman, whose love for his child borders on idolatry, and whose hospitality and good will to his fellow man distinguish him for noble virtues, was the cynosure of that full-orbed epicycle. Of course the meaning of those big j words, in plain English, is, "Belle of the j Ball Room." And now, Col. CARY W., let us tell you something about our young friend in question, which malees her still fairer and more charming. She is such an ac complished and brilliant pi?niste as is very soldom to be found in private life. The Camden Journal. Our valued friend on the Wateree comes out, lately, larger, newer, brighter, and still more spirited. We are extremely glad to sec all this, and beg to offer our kindest congratulations. Thc theory that the virus of disease con be safely counteracted by doses of poison, is false and dange rous. Within thc last twenty-five years, not less than a scare of virulent poisons have been added to the repository of thc medical profession. They are given in small doses, otherwise they would destroy iifc immediately: but even in minute quantities they produce, ultimately, very disastrous effects. I is unwiseand on philosophical to'employ, as remedies powerful and insidious drugs, which, in subjugating one disease, sow the seeds of another still more un manageable. None of f?ese terrible medicaments operate with as much directness and certainty upon tho canses of disease as Hosteller's Stomach Bitters, a tonic and corrective uithout a'single deleterious ingredient in t?? composition. Arsenic and quinta are given for intermittents; bromide of potassium for nervous disorders; strychnine and prussic acid for general debility ; mercury, in various farms, for liver complaint; preparations of chloroform und opium for sleeplessness ; and yet these ?deadly drugs do not compare, as specifics for the diseases aboye enumera ted, with that wholesome vegetable invigorant and alterative, while they arc all so pernicious that it is astonishing any physician should Uko the responsi bility of prescribing them. Let "invalids, for their own sakes, try the Bitters before they resort to the poisons. The relief they will experience from a course of thc harmless specific, will render a recourse to the unsafe preparations referred to, quite un necessary. _ marriage Guide. LVEKY OXB HIS 0)VX DOCTOR.
