Church I Monday Night. jf The members of St. James A. M. I E. church, which is one of the strong- B ost churches among the colored peo- I pie in the up country, staged a most I unusual entertainment at the B :hurch Monday night and raised I >400.06, to pay their church assessment and pastor's salary before the Rev. Henderson left for conference at Laurens on Tuesday. This entertainment was a Mock Conference and was carried out by the women of the congregation. Georgia Gray acted as the Bishop ind presided over the body with Tianly dignity. She looked the part n a Prince Albert coat, a vest, man's jhirt and high collar. Her "presiding elders" were Emma Wilson, Mary Henderson, Rebecca Johnson, lanie Davis, and Josephine Wright, rhe parts of "pastors" were taken ay such women as Alice Harris, Mary Adams, Lula Wright, Carrie Houston and other well known women around town. Each one was dressed as she thought a minister] sught to be, Mary Adams appearing in a flourishing mustache and a ivrist watch. The women carried through the meeting with dignity and all were pleased at the large sum of money raised. The "pastors" bringing in the largest sums of money were Mary White, $22; Sally Fair, $24; and Josephine Robinson, $30.50. DEATH OF J. J. BLANCHETT Mr. J. J. Blanchett, until a few years ago a resident of Abbeville, died at his home in Greenville Sunday night in his eightieth year. Mr. Blanchett was a Confederate soldier having served in Co. E. 14th! S. C. Regiment and was a member of Camp Pulliam U. C. V. in Green _ ville. Mr. Blanchett is survived by his second wife and by the following children by a former marriage: E. T. Blanchett and Mrs. T. L. Cann and Mrs. Kate Marshall of Abbe, ville, Mrs. Essie Campbell of Greenville, Mrs. Nannie Thomas of Calhoun Falls and Mrs. John Morgan of Walhalla. Mr. Blanchett was buried at Rocky River church, the Junior Order of which he was a member, conducting the services at the grave. Potato Inspector. Mr. D. D.
