GAME OF BALL SATURDAY The Abbeville Cotton Mills base ball team opened its season last Sat urday in fa close and well fought game with Ware Shoals. The Shoals players were victors by 4 to 2 and aobody could deny that they earned their, laurels for their real action vas confined to practically one inn ing of heavy hitting and the rest of the game was a stubborn fight to fcold the advantage against the de termined attack of the local boys. This game was not only the open ing game of the season for the Ab beville players but it was their first contest in the new enclosed park and tho bca! fans turned but in good numbers. The Hatch Concert Band, nder Director A. K. Patterson led tike way from the city square to the jark and enlivened a short delay in {he arrival of part of the visiting team. Abbeville retired the first three Shoals batters in quick style and Jfcen fceames led off for the home team by driving out a two base hit - cad scoring a few minutes later on Milan's single. This ended the scor lag until the fourth inning which [ proved disastrous for Abbeville. | lKlan showed the softness of earlv! season and after hitting Collinghaml tike first man at the plate in the I fourth, he gave Chalmers a hit to the fence for two bases and a"i;ie core. A clean single and another two base drive gave Ware Shoals three runs before retiring. More de termined tha~n ever, Abbeville open d sp with a single by Howie who tried for home shortly afterward on a two-bagger by Sealey but he was thrown out at the plate on a close decision. Ware Shoals took one more run Sh the fifth inning when Maclntyre throve the ball against the left field fence for two bases, Collinghaml walked and Edwards singled. Air tight baseball followed with Abbeville driving hard to recover losses. The last moments of the MONST To miss this sale means greatest bargain event < Ladie? Howie led off with a clean single, stole second and scored on a right field hit by Milan who took too big a chance and was caught at third trying to stretch his run for an extra base. This ended the scoring in a game that would have been a credit to mid-season baseball. Abbeville will play at Ware Shoals next Saturday. Line-up of teams: Ware Shoals?
