UNITED WAR WORKS FUND. Columbia, S. C., Jan. 22.?South Carolina stands second along the seven states of the Southeastern Department in the collection of its United War Work fund, $1,147,618.64, given during the November, 1918, campaign which resulted in a national over-subscription, totaling $203,149,575. Charles T. Frick, state director of collections, with headquarters at Columbia, received word today from Atlanta Departmental offices that South Carolina had reported $662,717.26 in pledges collected January 1 or 60 per cent, of its fund for the continuing'of the war welfare work of the Y. M. C. A., Y. W. C. A., National Catholic War Council, Jewish Welfare Board, The Salvation Army, War Camp Community Service and American Library Association. Mississippi with 72 1-2 percent of its fund collected leads the states of the Southeast. South Carolina is one of the three states which had reported over half of the amounts subscribed as in hand at the first of the new year, Alabama being the third in order with 51 percent. Other states in order of standing are: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina. A total of $4,775,805.51 wa3 in hand January 1, or less than half of the department's pledges amounting to $9,739,188.74.
