I Friday, May 3, 1918. THE VETERANS COMING. The veterans will begin to arrive in Abbeville on next Monday afternoon. Th^ people of Abbeville must lake haste to prepare for their coming. The reputation of the city for looking after the pleasure of visitors to the city must not be allowed to suffer at the time when we should do our best. The old soldiers will not attend many more reunions. For many of them this reunion will be the last. Therefore, we should bestir ourselves to see that it is the best reunion they I have ever attended. k, _ ... . The Committee on Jiintertainmeni is the most important of the Committees. Mr. J. S. Stark is in charge of the committee and they have done good work towards finding , homes for all the veterans. A great j number of people have indicated a; desire to have a number of these Id soldiers with them. Some homes bare been missed in the canvass, and it is important that these report to Mr. Stark at once, as it will be necessary that every person do what he can in order that homes May be prepared for all. JS*. ' It is thought that some three S;i . hundred veterans will be here. In addition, to these a good number of &t. ' other persons will be here to attend the reunion, including perhaps fifty or more young ladies who are to act as sponsors for the several oamps, including their maids of honor. At the last reunion there C'"1 / were four hundred of the veterans mlone. It seems certain therefore that we should expect at least four hundred visitors in the city. isr ? * So far as reported homes for only two hundred and twenty-five fft flonf _T T, Ha T t ityviwvi w W. ? Pcrrin, who is in charge of all committees. It is likely that Mr. Stark may have secured homes for others. ISe-'" but is is evident that others still must be provided for. It will not do for those who are a position to help to wait to be asked to do their part. The time for assistance is now, and the committee has not the time to make another canvass of the city. Those who desire to provide homes for the veterans will, therefore, telephone to Mr. Stark, advising him of the number they desire to entertain. Those persons who have already taken delegates can help materially by taking one or two more, if this can be done conveniently. jf"? j THEIR FINISH. ' We see that Col. J. M. Connor,! formerly of Greenwood, but now of' the progressive city of Greenville, \ ~ . . .. I says xnac rsryan is tne greatest political fakir in the country and that Champ Clark is next. We suggest that cryan and Clark now be good, j LEVER'S HAT IN RING. jj$ The announcmeent that Congressman Lever will be in the race for the United States Senate to suc J o A TV11 !11 iV tccu oeiiiiLur i minaii win cause trie politicians all over the country to 1 sit up and take notice. Congressman Lever has made the state a most creditable representative in Congress. As the chairman of one < of the most important committees in the lower house, he has had the ! confidence of the administration, and has made himself a national ] figure. Just what effect his announcement will have on the politi- j cai fortunes of other candidates mains to be seen. If elected he i SB. Wv. will fill the office to the satisfaction of the people of the State. $ GENERAL BONHAM, ORATOR. ( One of the things to be looked ( forward; to at the Reunion of the Veterans next week is the speech of Gen. Bonham, of Anderson. We say he is "of Anderson" merely because he is temporarily residing there. He really belongs to Abbeville. General Bonham is one of the most finished orators in the state. 1 He takes a great interest in all matters connected with the Confederacy, and his speech will be worth hearing. SOLDIER TALK. Col. Fogg Fleming, of Antreville, : was here Tuesday. He says he wants someone to wire President Wilson to send a million and a half men to France to whip the Ger- . mans. He says -it will take that many to help Pershing finish the J job, and that we Americans must do the work. The Colonel knows ^ what he is talking about. From all | we can gather, President Wilson | and the War Department have reached the same conclusion already, however, so we saw no need to send the message. ' BOY SCOUTS?NOTICE!! All boys between the ages of 12 and 18 years who are Boy ScoXits, and all boys between these ages 1 who want to be Boy Scouts, will please meet Mr. Plaxco at the City I Hall Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock.
