Bryan and family, of Colum bia, moved up to their summer home, their bungalow, near the Savannah, about Ave miles out, a short time ago, and are en joying, the comforts and pleasures of their rural home. Mr. G. W. Speer and little son, of the GafTney Bar, came over some days ago, and has since been with his father, Dr. A. J. Speer and family and other relatives and friends. Dr. and Mrs. P. B. Speed, of Abbeville, passed through this place last Sunday en route to the home of his sister, Mrs. I. H. McCalla, in the Fork, where they spant the day. ojasi oaiurciay evening mr.l). h. Miss Leila Moseley came down from An derson Thursday evening and is still here. A light shower of rain Sunday night in places in this section, Monday evening a heavier rain, and again Tuesday evening a more general rain -which gave a pretty good season. Mr. D. L. Barnes gave to the writer a few days ago a very pleasant ride in his line auto of eight or ten miles in the conn try, and gave him the great pleasure of visiting once again, at one time the meet noted and popular place in this part of ttte country, i. e., the Diamond spring. It is easily remembered when this spring was known as possessing curative properties and was patronized by many in search of health, far and near, and the then owner built a large hotel to accommodate the vis itors. After many years its patronage | dropped off for some causo and the prop erty fell into tho hands of those who neg lected it, and the spring became a swamp and could not be loeated. Several years 1 ago Mr. Androw Baskin, who had often i heard of the spring, bought tho land sur rounding it, moved to it, and since has been cured, of dyspepsia from which he had suffered a long while, has Axed up tho spring and is daily using the water. Barnes, Mrs. R. H. Moseley, Miss Alpha Barnes, and little son of first two named. The writer will,pleas antly remember the above trip as loDg as he lives, as one of his most pleasant. It had been about thirty years since his last visit.. Mrs. Jane Nixon died Sunday night in this place at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Donery Parnell in this place. She had been afflicted for some time; was about 65 years of age. The funeral services were performed Tuesday morning at the home in presence of a large attendance. Her pastor, Rev. J. W. Bishop of the Baptist church, assisted by Bev. J. C. Chandler of the Methodist church, after which the re mains were carried to Smyrna cemetery and placed in their last home. Flowers and wreaths were placed upon the mound in token of the esteem in which she was held by our people. Troupe.
