Merchant Who Won't Advertise Doesn't Deserve Support, Says a Farmer. In an audience composed mostly of the members of Jhe Farmers' Union one of the speakers recently expressed the mutual friendship between the farm and newspaper in the following: . "As a rule the farmed has no firmer % friend than the country press. The home paper is distiuctly* the farmer's own paper, supported directly and indirectly by farmers, who compose the backboneof the subscription list of the printer and largely for wbat the enterprising merchant advertises. /Now, brother, let us not forget our friends. Let us see tbat our subscription is paid a year in advance. We can do it. ' The man or the paper that fights my battles shall have my support. Another thing, the merchants advertising are the ones that make is possible for us to get a good local paper. _ The man of local firm that is too 1 penurious to advertise and help sup- [ port the local press has no right to the J farmer's patronage. "I promise hereafter to go to the a local advertiser and the man who j does his ehare in supporting the local I press, thus contributing to my support, rather than to buy of a man who proposes to take all and give me nothing back. If farmers as a class would support their friends, the other fellow \ would soon go out of business.? ^ , 1 Florence, Ala^ Times. ???- ?*4^+? (>?( with a KunIi. What "M" Sees and Hears on His Rounds About the City and Along Route No. 3. Abbeville, S. C., Sept. 8, 1909. Abbeville's merchants are returning 5? from northern markets and are daily receiving their stock of fall and winter goods. Every merchant has tried to buy judiciously, but as usual have laid in large and well assorted stocks which will keep up the reputation of our city, and sold at lowest prices. Watch their ads. Mr, Philson, of the firm of Philson, Henry <fc Co., has just returned from the north where he bought the largest and most beautiful line of goods this firm have ever carried, embracing all the leading styles, newest shades and novelties of the season. Mr. Philson is a close and prudent buyer and always has an "eye" to the beautiful. The old firm of R. M. Haddon & Co., have as usual purchased their mammoth stock of all the leading varieties of tne y season. Our ladies know what this means, better than we can tell them.
