BISCUIT COMPANY PROFITABLE SERVICE, Rev. B. II. Grler in the A(.socintod Reformed PreHbyterian Pulpit. LrrI Sunday morning the Rev. B. H. Grler conducted religious service to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church at tbla place in the most acceptable manner. The preacher wna rnvflrnni,. fervent and forcible. The read lng ot the Scriptures was good - tbe enunciation was clear and distinct. The prayers in oluded a petition In behalf of those of us wbo are do! quite perfect. Tbe weak and the faint bearted were not forgotten. Those wbo were struggling against besetting sins were offered cheering sympathy and encouragement In ' tbelr efforts to fight tbe good fight of faith. The fallen were not sorgatten, and It seemed (*s If the preacher was ready to extend a helping hand to those wbo would become again tbe loving children of the Heavenly Father. In his sermon the preacher referred to Paul in urging us to the discharge of our spiritual doty. He often referred to tbe Christian as If I be were In a warfare against sin Paul admonished us to fight tbe good fight ot fatth. He told us to put on tbe wbole armor. We must put on the breast plate of righteousness, and gird ourselves for tbe conflict. This conteat was in the spiritual and not in tbe physical life. While the spiritual life elevated our lives, and tended to tbe purity of the heart It also gave to na clean hands. Bat, tbe preacher askea, what war Is good where thousands are slalm? Do you know of any good warB? Ware generally have for tbelr purpote tbe slaying of men wbo are reduced to mere fighting machines. Jn the physical world there Is no such thing as a good war. If war Is waged for conquest it ib good robbery, instead of as in tbe caRe of Individuals, merely petty robbery. If we bad been dlposed to "talk back" at tbe preacher, we would have said tbat war la bad Indeed, bat that, aa a rule, substantial progress in morals and human liberty Is seldom attained, except by the sword. As well sing Psalms to a dead horse as for tbe people to plead for liberty at tbe bands of those wbo ' bold them In bondage. Russia will never be free, except by tbe sword, and those who ivould be free, themselves must strike tbu JiOW. Tbe conduot of tbe wbole service was rev ;rent, without tbe flippant or Irreverent uee )f tbe Name which none fthonld lake upon , .heir Hps except in reverential awe. Our people were pleased with Mr. Grier. In personal appearance be lu presentable, and bis ondact was sncb as would characterize or nark tbe gentleman. In fact, at least some >f onr people are so well pleased witb him .bat tbey would like to bave blm as tbelr pasor. As this editor Is among those wbo would ike to bave blm called to tbe pastorate of tbe Abbeville church, we would like to help blm >n to perlectlon. We are glad to say tbat In lis prayers he referred only once to "sinners," ind In bis sermon be spoke only once of the 'people of God." In announcing the congregational meeting, which was to take place lm- * mediately after tbe benediction, be suggested .bat it was desirable lor "all members of the iongregatlon and all adherents of the church" .0 remain to discuss matters tbat might be >rongbt before the meeting, Ppon which we would remark: We would like for some preaoher to explain ,o us who are "sinners" and wbo are tbe "peo)le of God." We think there is abundnnt ruhorlty for the average layman to say tbat all nen are "sinners." JKven so groat a man as Janl. we believe it was, said tbat all men are lars. Tbe line between "sinners" and tbe people >f God should be so clearly described that we sould know who's wbo. Another matier. While tbe line between sinners ana me -peopie 01 uou is dui uelned, we do not see the profit of drawing the ine between members o! tbe congregation, rhe congregation is made np of "communlsants" and "non-communicants." Then, why lesignate one as a member of tbe congrega, ion, and designate tbe non-communicant as in adherent? All these matters may be of no special im>ortance, but we do not see the benefit of keepng us in ignorance. References to "sinners" In contra dlstlnclon of "God's people" if not offensive, Is ceralnly not pleasant, Who of us has reached 4 batdegree of perfection tbatbe Is God's child vltbout sin ? If two or three are gatbered together in His name, are tbey not equally nembers of that congregation, even if some if them be not communicants of any church ? i A splandld lln* of brooms at Dargan's 5 andl 0 ctnti itort.
