While some crops further off have been damaged (main ones corn and cotton) to some extent, to just-what extent cannot yet be determined. While as said, those crops on some places have beeli somewhat damaged, yet on a large majority of places those and all others have been much bettered, so'.hat in a way crops and things generally have been far more than evened up, and the general good done by the rains far, very far, overbalances the evil, and all ought to be thankful. Wednesday last was the day appointed for the Congressional Candidates. Hon. I' H. McCalla and Hon. D. Wyatt Aiken, to address the people of this sectiou. The caDdi dates come to time, but the people did not There were perhaps one hundred voters present. (No ladles). That so few were presem can be explained in the Congressional and and county campaign meetings coming so close together, the one on the 10th auu the other on the 20tb. This it seems was unavoidable. The meeting was uneventlnl. The speakers each gave short talk and the .crowd scattered. Mr. R. W. Speer and family of Anderson C. The Congressional Campaign meeting was held here last Saturday and Candidates Aiken and McCalla spoke to a crowd of about one hundred. There was some misunderstanding as to the hour ol the speaking, this accounting for the small crowd The meeting was held In front ol E. H. Booker and Son's store 'in a cool, shady place. The county canpalgn meeting will be held here the 23rd. insl. Protraoted meeting started in the Baptist churoh yesterday and will run all this week. Dr. H. A. Bagby of Greenwood Is expected today and will assist the pastor. The Methodist meeting has been postponed until the third Sunday in September. Mr. B. A. Richey is erecting a nice cottage near here. Mr. R. H. Underwood has been quite sick for the past week. It is feared that he has appendicitis. Several Irom this place took in the farmer's institute atClemson last week. Mr. L. A. A quorum was present. On motion It was ordered that the campaign meetings begin at McCormick on August 16th. McCormick, August lfitb. Williugton, August 17th. Mt. Carmel, August 18th. Calhoun Falls, August 19th. Lowndesville, August 20th. Donalds, August 25rd. Due West, August 24th. Antreville, August 25th. Abbeville. August 27th.
