Last week we had the pleasure of nttending the State Fair in Columbia, and then we were so full of it, that had we attempted n description, wc should have written voluminously, if not interestingly. But now looking at it through the* nprenflpfiwo o Yi-nnV-o vnnAllAfci;?. ? w V* ? ?? v-viv o J tv.unv.-^LU.'Li it has lost eometliiug of its huge proportions, ar.d present interest, and hence we shall spare our renders the infliction of a long essa}*, descriptive and reflective. As was said of the Abbeville Fair, so every body says of the Columbia Fair, "it was a great success"?not equaling the ante.-hrUunr demonstrations in this way, hut far exceeding public expectation in the variety and brilliancy of the exkibitiou, and the large attendance of spectators. Tfro city was fiilled to overflowing, the hotels and private houses crowded to their utmost capacity, and thousands met togeth cr daily at the Fair Grounds. The Fair was licld at the old location in the outskirts of the city. Of the old buildings, only ihe Secretary's officeremains--the rest have fallen a prey to Sherman's incendiaries. Instead of them, the cit}' of; Columbia, ha^ erected a very commodious building and made a donation of building and grounds te the Society." Entering the gate, we first encounter the ampin-theatre for the exhibition of stock, dis r> ' o 1 * 1 iriuuwun or premiums, ?cc., wincti as yet is only partially j^o.vidcd with scats. Beyond is the Fair Building, a ppacious two-story wooden structure with commodious wings. Entering tho right hand door,) we are launched at once into the, Agricultural Department?mam- j moth cotton stalks, huge pump-! kius, the best of grain and the fin est vegetables. Ilere Abbevillo is! well represented, and Col. D. W.1 Aiken bears oft' the premium for: tho best bualiel each of oats, bailey, j rye, red wheat, sweet potatoes, and tnrnips?Major R. A. Griffin for the best bale of wool. The premium for the best bale of upland cotton was awarded to J. M. Crawford of Co- j lumbia, also tbo silver goblet pre-} seated by the CLarleatpn Chamber! of Commerce for the best tea bales: of cotton. In this Department, Abbeville is represented by Buccc3ful competitors in Mrs. M. C. Perrin, who exhibits the beat sample of apple jolly, Miss Emily Thomas, the best sample ol applo leather; Capt. D. "M. Kogos the best gallon of Chinese syrup. Retracing oar steps wo next encounter our friend, Dr. J. W. Thomas plying away his famous knitting machine, and surrounded with all the finished products of the loom and the ncedlo?embroidery and shell-work, kc&e. Hero arc exhibited some of the beet (if not the very best) cotton esDaborgs, shirtings and yarns in tho world. Th* Bivingeville Factory took the premium for tho hnat balrt nf'l osoabarg ?-~the Baioevillo, for the best shirting?and the Saluda for tho best yoro. The original name of the deceased was Butler, but he assumed the nnmo of Perry from an undo by whom he was adopted. The afflictions and privations of his declining days, bo sustained with great patience and resignation, and his con vocation and his deportment shortly before his death afforded an encouraging hope, that ho is now enjoying a blissful relief from his sufferings. C., died October 20, 18G9. u During her severe illness she exhibited many lovely trails of character, together with tho more spiritual ~ graces of the childlike Christian'. fi Her protracted sufferings extorted I moans, but no murmur. I Thero was much - around her to make life hero very sweet. Having completed her education in 1'alliniorc, v she hurried home last June to bo pros-, ent at the death bed of her father. That father lives, and on the day of hor burial, kissed her cold brow, bidding adieu to his darling, child with the words : " dutiful and beloved daughter.'' An elder .sister was to her both mother and sister. Oh how constantly, teuderlv, ?ho nursed Ihc suffering one. And thero was one who 3 loved her with all the strength of a u true manly heart, and who had won her love. After a loneencasement of more than a year, they felt that their nuptials would unite "two souls withont a single thought two hearts that beat as one." The 13th of October, was the day appointed for the mar- - riage of AIis:s Norwood to f)r. James J Fuming. That day found her extremely ill of typhoid fever. ( Death, the messenger of our Lord, ( touched the frail human flower, bo loving and beloved, and she ceased to suffer and began to live. "When d3'ing she strove to comfort her father, saying how much hotter it was to have children with the angels in Heaven,;! than dwelling on earth. Trusting in Je?us she was willing to ; die. " -Made pcrfeet through suffer- i#| ing," she is as she believes she would (j bo, "with tho angelB now "?no shad- it ow dusks the radionee of that brow, a which, having passed tho pearly gates, is with tho angels now.
