Many 50c girls are doning their feet wjth $5. 00 stockings. j We heard sometime ago that a certain millinery store in this city di i not allow Negroes to try on their hats and when prices were jquoted to Negroes they were unreasonably high presum ably tp shew that they did not care tojserve Negroes. Whether or aot the foregoing are undeni able facts we are not certain but it is hoped so, and that the time is not far distant when others will sjerve Columbia's big Ne groes with the same big dose of non-appreciation and scorn, Less; time killed on the streets of our jtown8 and cities by minis ters, business and professional men and more time at their vari ous avocations would mean bet ter sejrvice in their respective lines as well as advancement for the race. . Thej repert of Sumter County ^n^^^^^^rrl?iroog^^^^ vor of |Dr. L. L. Bragg Anthony, the county supervisor. The re port shows that the supervisor is doirig distinctively good work among the schools of that county Prof. Antisdel is proving him self to be the right man to fil President Valentine's place and The Indicator wishes for him un bounded success. # * ? According to reports there was an average of $53.42 per capita July 4s against $57.18 a year ago. Just $3.76 less. Judging from the universal complaints and our personal financial holding there must j be something wrong with that [report. Somebody else must ! have our much needed $53 4$, * * Wejacknowledge the reminder from jour old friend, Rev. I. S. Taylofr of Rembert to witness his Fifteenth Anniversary as pastor of 8;. John Baptist Church. Long ago Rev. Taylor assured us that curs was a standing invita tion tp all of his churches at all timesj All he has to do now is to reminld us of any special meet ing. I We are sorry however that we cjmld not be present. Next time Rev. Taylor we shall be on the jo^b or send a representative. Th? strong and very timely link jtalk made by.Prof. W. D. Princje in favor of Morris College and racial cooperation at Second Calvary Church last Sunday morning will do much good for our peonie here and everywhere this message of hope and inspira tion is carried. This messageis the kjind that must of necessity be c?rried into every nook and corner of South Carolina if Mor ris Cbllege is to be properly sup ported and racial cooperation a wakfrned in the Negro. It has been ours to hear representatives of schools and other institutions manjy times before but never just on tjie order which Prof Prince presented his school. In this re spect alone Dr. Starks is doing a grjeater work than any presi dent in the State. We cannot witn any degree of certainty say thai Racial Cooperation is a part of the subject given Prof. Prince by ?)r. Starks, we rather think that Prof. Prince's broad vision along this line makes him a man broad enough for all the people, whose interest is his, to link this subject with Morris College. We want more Princes on the stage of action. r 1 a r v i j t 1 E I s r c s r I \ I c t t I l I I I The Indicator would advise lome ministers to lead honest straightiorward Christian lives, pay their hor est debts, and stop iabbling into so many things not in keeping with the call they claim to have and there will be less knocking and hammering on the ministry. Perhaps if the Ministerial Unions would lay as much stress on such in their ses sions as they do on the kind of sermons to preach 'and how to conduct church affairs, they would do much to set those hypo crits among them right. There are some of them who just will not pay honest bills and keep a good name with business and professional men. And its indeed a reflection on the minis try. Its a common thing for almost any business or professional man to name many ministers who owe them honest bills which seem im possible to be collected. The minister who is guilty of [such allows his bad record to speak louder than the greatest sermon he can preach. Yet he wonders why he doesn't get the approval of his congregations when he has done his best in the pulpit. Get right brother and your sermons will be more effec tive. A Hint To The Wise in an editorial squib a few weeks ago we stated tha ' the days of yore when parents did not allow their daughters to go out at night without mother's presence should return" and we are " b e i n g convincto more each day that the suumentis true, especially as relate* iu some of the "upper tens" ahd aspir ants to this ciass. ihe way some of these are c kicked is by no moans complimentary nor does it lend wholesome inspira tion to the younger set. Some one has said "Some of these young folks ought organize them selves into a 'Mid-Night Ram blers' Association' and so badge themselves " The Indicator somewhat agrees m with the statement as such would be a fitting badge of distinction. Too, when persons are needed in pablic work such as teachers in Churches and" sueh/ such ones will not be mistakenly put in places ahead of the more worthy ?those who first look after the borne and live above suspicion. There is a common expression on the lips of many like this : 11 "Matters not how you live, what you say or do, people are going to talk any how." This is no expression for the girl or woman to make if she lives above criti-., eism. In fact in too many cases | they resolve to do wrong on the ground that, "peopie will talk anyhow." But the girl who leads the right life and will set her ''face like a flint" against the temptations that always leadja tnem to destruction, can and will ^ver come and thus lead a pure life?such as will withstand any an becoming criticism by those tvho would see their down fall. A hint to the wise is sufficient. 2 - I Victory Bank A Certainty. a The Victory Savings Bank is ' low a certainty. The charter 1 las been secured, officers elected ? md despite the hard times, much a noney is available and the Bank 1 vili in due time have a big open ng in this city, such as will in- : ect new life into every phase of '( msiness with which the colored 2 ire identified. f The officers of this bank are lonest upright business and ? >rofessional men. The Board of C )iroctors is a set of equally as P rood men and women who will a ee that the affairs of the bank * 9ill be properly conducted and 0 he people's interest cared for in P he same manner. I What's ne.rded now is a gene al uniting am >ng Columbians ? m this bank. / Every stockholder 0 hould see that his friends buy as nuch stock as possible and re- 8 >ort at the next meeting which n vili be called by the Board ot t directors. As to failure, there " :an be none matters not what a he critics may say to the con- h rary. The right men are at the lead and many of the right men 1< md women are behind them t >acking them in their right d efforts. E Let there be no knojekers a- a nong us men, for once let's all n mil togetherjmd put the Victory s Javings Bank over as quickly as fc )ossible and thereby put Colun\ t >ia on the map with other pro- I rressive towns and cities. u Any person who would do the n east to retard the progress of t his long needed institution does n ust that much to retard his own - progress. Another Playground. Under the splendid leadership of Mrs. A. S. Williams, presi dent of The Home Makers Club, and the kindness of President Antisdel of Benedict College, A Community Playground was opened on Benedict's Campus yesterday for children of the city. This is another step for ward in the right direction and The Home Makers Club deserves much credit, for establisoing a playground lb which all colored children have access while the city fathers go on their way making provision for every com fort and amusement for white children to the complete ex clusion of Colored children with :he exception of one which is scarcely known one of its im- ^ nediate community.
