i i MEYER MILL, ELLENTON AND DUNBARTON DOTS. i _ i ???? A Very useful man gone. On the third; inst. Saxon Graham died at his home; near Milletville, S. C. His re mains were laid to rest at Ned Branch Baptist Church Sunday, the 5th. The funerkl was largely attended. He was a deacon of this church. He was a loving husband, a faithful father and a useful officer. He leaves a wife and several children and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss. We may pot soon look upon his like again. Th? Four-Mile Union held its ses sion jrith the Runs Baptist church the Fifthj Sunday in May with apparent success. Let us hope that these unionis may mean more than simply the q'oming together and the raising of m<pney. Wej hope that its aim will be to ele vate ine race, point its ambition high er spiritually, morally and inteiect ually,j fighting against everything that pulls I our people down, viz., such as selling blind tiger, immoral living and the ljke. If we are to rise at all it mustibe through righteousness. Mrs|. Ellen Showls of Snelling sec tion c\ied on the 10th inst. and her re mains} were laid to rest on the 11th inst. jit St. Paul Bapitst church. The funeral was preached by Rev. A. Chishjolm, who did credit to the occa sion. ! The crowd was large and or derly.j May she rest in peace. Mr.; Henry Williams, that wide awake and business like farmer, passeri through Dunbarton and Donora on rojute to his upper place near Meye? Mill, S. C He stopped with the writer. Evejry loyal Negro can't help from j feeling proud over some actions of the Governor cf Georgia and st.me of iti humaie citizens who arc- uring such strenuous efforts to alleviate the. poor and oppressed Negroes of Georgia, especially in the peonage cases where many i poor carnival vassals of our race are kept in abject slavery. Let us pr^iy earnestly that God will give us still more sympathizers in this great ;irace of white people. C. ?. Dunbar, delegated from Tus kegeej to the Y. M. C. A. in North Carolina, which convened on the 26th ult. ajad adjourned on the 6th inst., en roiite back to Tuskegee, stopped over and lectured for us at the acad emy ^?ear Donora, S. C, on the 12th inst. [He made a strong moral appeal to his! people, and said that the pur ? pose Of the Y. M. C. A. was to iden tify, yisi nize and learn the needs of ^Ptheri. , Forty-eight schools and col ^^^^Ssy^ere represented and 111 dele gates [and distinguished men from va rious jstates in the meeting. Dr.!Plato Durham, of Atlanta, says the hbpe of the world is not in mere law propagando, but in the hope of who calls themselves true Christians. This includes fair dealing to all men, all nations and all races, regardless as toi the situations. Dr.iW. W. Alexander, in the same meetihg, says no race is static be cause! they are hitched unto the prov idence of God. Any race who tries to set limitations on another race, those people are shutting out the purposes of Gcjd. Oh, my people, let us turn to Goji and live, for it hath been truly said the purposes of God is just and rightejous altogether. My last appeal to the colored sisters on the Four Mile jfield and elsewhere never lay down iyour righteous arms, take fresh courage. Good will towards all. S. B.
