CdMUEJS', S. C. Tuubsuay, ...arch 11, 181 y. BI bLL oUtiJL i \ . In publishing an admirable address o?. this subject, we cannot tot bear adding our earnest wishes, our anxious hopes, and uui Highest expectations that its content* may not be without their due effect in this coin munity. After such a display of se muc? eloquence, and so much good sense. It may perhaps, be deemed improper to add one single sentence ; but we cauiK>t forbeat i-ubjoining the memorandum found in i?k }3ible of the great Sir W. Jones. " I have regular})' aud attentively read ihe Holy Script.urcs, and are of opinion his Volume, independent of its divi;. ou;.;in, contains more sublimety aud mure beauty, more pure morality, more im port - ant ano liner strum* of poetry and clonuence than can be collected trom an ?ther iJooks, in whatever language or age they may have been composed." FuR'THlv C'\v. GAZETTE. M k . Editou \ ? SIHy? I'eiv -jving a Jparag.nph, in t> e Columbia papers, staling that a large num- * ber of workmen were about to be employ ed under the dheciiou of the Slate Lngi lletr, for the exclusive purpose of remov ing the impediments in the liver jiavi^a tion near that town j Iain induced to ask whether such wat or was not the intention ot ll ie~ Legislature ? Any m n of common sense wouid think that the iaircst to the community and by far the piotti judicious in its result, would he, to bcbin by remov ing the obstructions in the lo?ver, father than those in the upper Distiicis. Then as lar as was done w ould be done, and done well. Up.?n the present plan, it is fionai bU, that all the money m:t? be exclusively employed lor the benefit of the Town of Columbia. This, Sir, I do not apprehend to be fairplay. I do not wish to be thought to find fault, merely tor the sake of doing so. However, tor instance, 1 would beg to suggest to Mr. Engineer, that he should begin at t'"^ VmLs, and divide his men into two portions, ^ive Camden, as w ell as Columbia, a fair chance of having its na vigation partially, if not completely im proved. It may be urged, that the presence of the Engineer may be necessary. If so, thU can be no objection, us tbe neck of land is sufficiently narrow for him to attend to both, while his operations are going on near the Vorks; and when higher up, he will not be more than fifteen miles from either river. He will then be able to al ternate his visits to each party. I am Stc. &c. A 'f \ MOON IAN. Watch Clock JViE W ESTABLISHMENT.
