Terry Catoe, col., is now in jail charged with stealing a cow last Friday night from John Crane, also colored, who lives near town. Catoe was arres'ed at Heath Springs Saturday. Counts. Snake* Ualorc. There has been "something doing" in the way of snake kill ing this year on the farm ofMr. T. J. Mackey, in the Dixie sec tiou. Mr. Mackey's three little boys, Thorna9, Edward and Palmer, killed 83 snakes on the place between the first of April and the first of November. Death of Minn Mary Cook, Daughter of Mr. G. It. Cook. Miss Mary Jane Cook, daughter of Mr. George R. Cook, ot Flat Creek, died Monday morning of typhoid fever, aftei an ill ness of two weeks. She was about sixteen years of age and was a most estimable young lady. SI10 was a member of the Baptist church. The remains were buried yesterday at Flat Creek church. Death of Mr. Eli T. Thompson, of the Dry Creek Section. Mr. Eli T. Thompson, who lived at the McCardell place in Dry Creek, died Monday, of pneumonia. lie was sick but a lew days. Mr. Thompson was a good citizen and industrious farmer. He was about 50 years old and leaves a widow and 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church. The burial was at New Hope yesterday. Entertainment at Vanwyck. The Vanwyck camp of the Woodmen of the World will give a public entertainment Thanks giving night. Mr. Claude Huey left Monday for Cheraw, to accept a position with the Seaboard Air Line. His brother, Mr. Walter Huey, is now filling his former position here with the Southern. Mayor Wylie accompanied Mrs. Wylie as far as Chester Saturday on her way to Agnes Scott Institute, to visit her daughter. Mr. Sam F. Massey, of Fort Mill, is visiting his daughters, Misses Mary and Fancis, who are staying with their uncle, Mr. 11. E. Coffey, and attending the Lancaster graded school. Messrs. Beauregard Cunningham, W. S. Langley, James Hunter and Hugh Taylor lett this week for Oklahoma, to inspect some lots recently purchas ed by them. Mr. W. L. Dunn, who has been farming thin year for his health, in the Lindsay section, has returned to Lancaster and resumed his insurance work. Misses Bessie and Mayme Jones, Celeste Cauthen and Annette Stover, students of VVinthrop, spent Saturday and Sunday at their respective homes here. The Ilev. and Mrs. R. Lee Robinson, ot Camden, Ala., who have been visiting the former's old home in this neighborhood, returned to Alabama Monday. Capt. T. C.
