Twenty Four Apply For Educational Scholarships Twenty four sons and daughters of Clinton Mills, Inc., its divisions and sub sidiaries, and M.S. Bailey and Son, Bankers have applied for educational scholarships and/or loans through the Bailey Foundation, according to Vice President Claude A. Crocker, Administrator of the Foundation. Fifteen of the 24 applicants are Clinton High School seniors. Among these are Rickey Campbell, Lynn Deitz, Joy Dickert, Bill Hill, Carol King, Maria Livingston, Rick Swetenburg, Glenn Waldron, Lorie Wallenzine, Steve Wilkins, Jamie W^oody, Lynn Boozer, Dennis Hampton, Tammy Bagwell and Joyce Leake. Laurens High School seniors applying to the Foundation include Ruth Nelson and Catherine Azilee Jones. Applications were also received from Kimberly Raleigh and Christopher Raleigh. Their father is with Clinton Mills Sales Corporation in New York. Kerry Nelson, a 1978 Clinton High graduate, has also filed for educational assistance from the Bailey Foundation. James David Scott, a Thornwell senior, was the only applicant from this • school. The Foundation also received scholarship/loan applications from Tom Daven port, Geneva, Ala.; James Pope, Talladega, Ala.; and Janice K. Powers, Pryor, Okla. Miles Lawson, Plant No. 2 Draw-In Operator and Tying Machine Repair Technician, graduated from the Batson-Knotex Warp Tying Instructional School in Greenville. Gordon Chambers, Batson Warp Tying School Instructor, (right) presents the diploma to Lawson following his successful completion of the course. Held at Batson’s home office and demonstration facilities in Greenville, the school covered all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the Batson- Knotex Warp Tying machinery and accessories. The Batson-Knotex Warp Tying machine ties up to 600 knots per minute, has 12 variable speeds and is adjustable to tie tails from 1/4” to 11/4P. Recent developments! have improved the machine so that it is now capable of tying yarns, nylon and fiberglass with diameters of 9.5mm. Cobb Is Named Plant Engineer Robert Cobb has been promoted to Bailey Plant Engineer, succeeding J.B. Patterson who recently retired. Cobb has been with the company for 29 years and is a member of the Old Timer’s Club. He was initially employed in the Lydia Spinning and transferred to the Lydia maintenance department in 1952. When the Bailey Plant was built in 1966, he transferred there as a machinist. His hobbies include gardening and far ming. Robert Cobb Snider, Waters Boy's State Gregory Ray Snider and Allen Waters have been selected as Clinton Mills delegates to Boy’s State in June. During the week long citizenship pro ject, sponsored annually by the American Legion, the young students will study the basic fundamentals of state, county, and local governments. In addition, they will receive com prehensive instruction through classroom lectures, group meetings, and open dis cussions with government leaders. Snider is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Snider, and the grandson of retired Lydia Carding employee Alice Snider. Allen is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Prue Waters. Prue is a Bailey Plant Weaver. MEMORIAL ★ DAY* As previously announced, all Clinton Mills Plants will observe Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, as a paid holiday. All plants will stop Saturday, May 26, with the end of the regular second shift. Operations for the week will begin Monday, May 28, at 12 o’clock midnight, with the third shift. Christmas Savings Paid Out New Way Beginning June 1, 1979, your Clinton Mills Christmas Savings will be paid out through the Payroll Department only. It will no longer be necessary to go to the Bailey Bank to withdraw your Christmas funds early. According to the Christmas Savings Policy, once an account is paid out during the year it cannot be restarted in that savings year (November through Oc tober). Also, no interest will be paid on any account withdrawn before the close out date in October. This new way of paying early Christmas withdrawals through the Payroll Department will make it more convenient for those employees wishing to withdraw Christmas Savings prior to the normal payout period. Delegates Industrial Engineer Bramletf Joins Company J.C. Bramlett Jr., joined the company April 23 as an Industrial Engineer. Joe, 25, is a native of Laurens and received his B.S. Degree in Government from the University of South Carolina in 1976. Prior to coming to work at Clinton Mills, he was associated with J.P. Stevens Watts Plant as an Industrial Engineer.
