Each degree candidate will hand his/her name card to the announcer at the platform. The announcer will read the name of the degree candidate and academic honors, if applicable. As the name is read, the candidate will walk across the lower platform and be greeted first by President Sorensen, and then by the dean of his/ her school/college. • When will I receive my diploma? Upon confirmation of graduation from the degree candidate’s dean, the degree will be posted to the academic records. Degree candidates may wish to periodically check his/her Record of Academic Work for Advisement Only on the Academics tab of VIP to see if the degree is posted. Diplomas will be mailed to the graduate’s permanent address. Diplomas are mailed to the graduates within the United States via first class mail, and to international addresses via registered airmail. Graduates may expect to receive their diploma in August. • How can I request my academic transcripts with my degree posted? Transcript requests must be in writing and signed by the student to whom the record belongs. To order a transcript of your University of South Carolina academic record, you may make the request in person on the third floor of Petdgru College or send a written request to the Office of the University Registrar, University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC 29208-0001. You may also download the Transcript Request form from the Internet by pointing your web browser to http:// registrar.sc.edu/html/ transcripts/transcript.stm. Please be sure to request that we mail your transcript after your degree is posted. Your academic dean has up to thirty days after the commencement exercises to verify that all graduation requirements have been met and approve your graduation. If you ask us to hold your transcript until after your degree is posted, it will be mailed as soon as the approval is received from your academic dean, your current semester grades are recorded and your degree is posted. According to University policy, transcripts will be held if all financial obligations to the University of South Carolina are not properly satisfied. If you think you may have an unsatisfied debt, telephone the Accounts Receivable Office at 803. 777.3520, or visit their website at http:// web.csd.sc.edu/bursar/. • How and when will I get my seat number? Degree candidates participating in the Baccalaureate, Master’s and Professional Commencement Exercises should obtain their seat number from VIP. Using any web browser on a computer with access to the Internet, degree candidates may access the Application for Degree or Certificate Information on the Academics tab of VIP. The Office of the University Registrar will post seat assignments for the degree candidates on VIP in early May. • Do I need to arrive at the Colonial Center wearing my academic QUCSTIOnS • 12 n 9 ...
