FRRTEIH1ITV • CORTinUEDFROmi fraternity,” Hutcherson said. The colony would grow in strength by effective recruiting and proper training on operating as a fully functioning fraternity. “Pike will be supported through on-site counseling, leadership training workshops, and alumni support and advisory, so they will be able to sustain a successful fraternity,” Olsen said. Pike will remain a colony for at least one year. If they recruit successfully and establish themselves, they will receive their charter^ which includes the privilege of looking into housing options. One of the essential parts of counseling the would be fraternity -will come from the fraternity’s strong alumni base at USC. “Alumni bring consistency, support and much-needed advice for the colony,” Olsen said. “Without alunjni, the new guys would have nothing to fall back on. With them, they have a history.” Fraternity Council President Justin Runager, a second-year business student, said Monday the council is concerned about how the fraternity’s return to campus would affect the recruitdient quotas of other fraternities; Greeks make up less than 20 percent of students. Olsen, however, said more fraternities would produce more interested students rather than increase competition for a limited few. “With an extra fraternity present during recruitment come additional people who are interesting in rushing and eventually pledging. There would be a considerable increase in interest, benefiting all fraternities on campus looking to recruit.” Hutcherson agreed. “A new fraternity brings positive public relations to the entire greek community. We are not seeking to be their competitor, but rather, their partner.” Comments on this story?
