PROTEST • CODTinilCD TROIDI their efforts as the first step to withdrawing entirely from Iraq. “Before you know it, the entire country is going to stand up and say ‘bring our troops home now,” said Wade Fullmer of Military Families Speak Out. Some members of the bus tour have a different approach to dealing with differing opinions. “If you’re for us or against us we want you to show up. We want people to talk about it,” Zappala said. “It seemed like it tell orr the radar there tor a while. We’ve brought meaning back.” Some of the speakers were most angered not with opposition, but with phrases such as “support our troops.” “Our soldiers suffer and die because of the WMD lie,” Fullmer said. The tour has three sections: the central tour, the northern tour and the southern tour. The tour will end in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. An anti war protest is scheduled Sept. 24-26. “The people who are going to change it are not on that (pointing to the audience) side of the podium,” Cuniglio said. Comments on this story? USC Director of Law Enforcement Ernie Ellis said police were notified 30 minutes after the initial incident occurred, but that police were not aware of any subsequent sightings. They had so many people and they weren’t regulating the area. I left the game very angry for myself and for students.” “That was crowd control,” said Student Life Director Jerry Brewer, who added that several intoxicated people had to be removed Saturday. Preston also said older men were harassing female students sitting in the stands. “What it came down to was a safety issue. Visually, you could see there were way more people than the safe number is,” said USC Sports Information Director Steve Fink. Traditionally, there has been a lack of student understanding to the nature of the enforcement. “The lady (distributing tickets) brought my attention to my section number and said they would be enforcing section assignments,” said Karin Gardner, a third-year broadcast journalism student. Brewer said the only ticket checkpoints would be at the portals. “I think the plan is they’re going to check tickets coming in the portal,” Brewer said. Even if students are still allowed to sit where they please, Brewer said they should expect a longer wait to get into the stadium as students search for the correct portal. “It might be wise to let the students know they need to come into the stadium a little earlier, because it will take more time than what they were used to,” Brewer said. The athletics department asked students to have patience. “From an athletics department standpoint, the • student support is tremendous and we appreciate that,” said External Relations Director Kevin O’Connell. “We want to make it so that everyone can enjoy the game.” Comments on this story? Although he offered no promises, Pastides hinted at possibly attracting South Carolina’s first Apple computer store. “I’ve visited research campuses and research parks around the United States, around the world, and I can. tell you we’re not mimicking any other campus,” Pastides said. “I will use. the word ‘unique,’ and I am sensitive about using that word.” Sorensen added:”More than a campus, our innovating district will be a vibrant, bustling, contemporary social setting, where innovation can be found not just in the work that’s' done in the buildings, but in the actual design of the area, the residents, the shops.” Sorensen and Pastides held a second news conference to announce the name to the general public at the Metropolitan Convention Center.
