WORLD Kidnapped Pakistani freed after 2 weeks ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A Pakistan embassy official who was kidnapped in Iraq two weeks ago was freed Sunday, the chief Pakistani government spokesman said. Malik Mohammed Javed was abducted April 9 after he left his residence in Baghdad to attend prayers at a mosque. The Pakistani government said after his abduction he was in the custody of a previously unknown Islamic militant group, Omar bin al Khattab that had demanded a ransom for Javed’s release. Ecuador’s ex-leader begins exile in Brazil BRASILIA, Brazil — Ecuador’s former president began his life in exile in Brazil on Sunday, ending a four-day drama that began when protesters accusing him of abuse of power drove him from office and forced him to take refuge in the Brazilian ambassador’s residence. Their lawyers had argued that Gibson’s contract included a promise not to speak about the couple’s private lives. Chan talks AIDS on Vietnam visit HA LONG CITY, Vietnam — Action film star Jackie Chan visited this communist country for the first time as a United Nations goodwill ambassador, promoting HIV/AIDS awareness in a nation where health experts warn infection rates are on the verge of exploding. Lauded author gets U.S. postage stamp GUTHRIE, Ky. — Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Penn Warren now graces a U.S. postage stamp. Hundreds of people gathered in Warren’s hometown in southwest Kentucky last week to witness the unveiling of the stamp, the 21st in the U.S. Postal Service’s Literary Arts series. “I can think of no better way to return the favor than by dedicating this stamp to a letter-writing man,” said Ann C.
