FAMILY MEMBERS AND GUESTS Admission tickets or invitations are not usually required. The Commencement Exercises are open to the public, and you may invite as many guests as you wish. Upon the announcement of the commencement speaker, this policy is subject to change. Guest seating will be on a first-come-first-seated basis. There are reserved seating areas for the degree candidates, University faculties, honored dignitaries and special guests. Family members and guests of the degree candidates will enter the Colonial Center at the main entrance, near the fountain, located on the corner of Greene and Lincoln Streets. The doors to the Colonial Center will open 2 hours prior to the Commencement Exercises. Colonial Center The Colonial Center has advised that all bags will be searched so please allow time for this security procedure. You may wish to leave unnecessary items at home. Families and guests are urged to be seated approximately 1 hour before the beginning of the ceremony. For your enjoyment the University of South Carolina Symphony Orchestra will provide special prelude music. Commencement programs will be located on tables located on the Concourse level of the Colonial Center. All guests will be able to view the commencement exercises on the large overhead video screen. During the ceremony, we ask that guests remain in their seat and to keep the aisles clear. At the conclusion of the ceremony, family members, guests, and degree candidates should remain at their seat until the recessional of the platform party and University faculties is complete. Ushers will be present and available to direct family members and guests to the nearest seating, or exits.
