West Quad CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1 students and developers about two years ago. Students who were involved voiced concerns and needs from problems in their current dorms. Planners used this information as a guide or template for designing the West Quad. “The buildings have several lit tle things that will be better for, the students,” Luna said. i Not only does West Quad offer new features for students, it is an environmentally conscientious building. “This is a new trend in dorms,” Luna said. The building was built with specially ordered paints and carpets that are less harmful to the environment. Luna went on to say that once the landscaping is finished, people will notice that it was planned to have environ mentally sound drainage and buffer features that filter water run-off. This was one of the primary drives for building the new dorm. “Ideally we want this building to attract students from all dis ciplines, but we want them to be aware of the environmental im plications,” Luna said. In addi tion, he said, the location of the new dorm will act as a central hub to bring students from all different majors and demo graphics.
